What they need

Purpose of the Role: The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) will work closely with students residing in University hostels to create a safe, engaging, inclusive and vibrant residential experience beyond regular academic hours. The position is not intended to function merely as a traditional hostel warden. The RLC will serve as a bridge between hostel students and the University, remaining accessible to students, understanding their concerns, encouraging participation, building a positive hostel culture and coordinating opportunities for their overall development. The ultimate objective is to transform the hostel from simply a place of accommodation into an active residential learning community. Educational Qualification Candidate must possess a Postgraduate Degree in any of the following areas: • Engineering / Technology • Pharmacy • MBA / Management • M.Com • M.Sc. Candidates with demonstrated experience in student engagement, hostel/residential activities, youth development, sports, cultural activities, student clubs, mentoring or institutional events will be preferred. Key Responsibilities 1. Student Engagement & Connect Maintain regular interaction with hostel students and develop an approachable relationship with residents. Understand student expectations, concerns and emerging issues through formal as well as informal interactions. Ensure that students have an accessible institutional contact within the residential environment. 2. Residential Life & Activities Plan and facilitate meaningful activities during evenings, weekends and other appropriate non-academic periods. Activities may include sports, fitness, cultural programmes, open-mic sessions, quizzes, competitions, movie evenings, skill-development activities, career interactions, celebrations and recreational programmes. The emphasis should be on student participation and student-led activities rather than compulsory events. 3. Hostel Ambassador Programme Identify and develop responsible students as Hostel / Residential Ambassadors. Create an effective student network across hostel floors/blocks to facilitate communication, peer support, newcomer assistance, activity participation and constructive feedback. Hostel Ambassadors will not function as disciplinary authorities. 4. New Student Integration Support newly admitted students during their transition to hostel life. Coordinate orientation, peer/buddy support and introductory activities so that new residents can become comfortable with the campus, hostel environment and available support systems. Special attention should be given to students experiencing difficulty adjusting to residential life. 5. Student Feedback & Experience Continuously capture student feedback regarding: • Hostel experience • Mess and food • Cleanliness • Wi-Fi and common facilities • Recreation • Sports • Safety • Student activities • General residential environment 6. Student Wellbeing & Early Support Remain attentive to students who appear socially isolated, disengaged or facing adjustment difficulties. The RLC is not expected to act as a professional counsellor. Cases requiring counselling, medical assistance, disciplinary intervention or specialised support must be referred promptly to the appropriate University authority. 7. Clubs, Sports & Community Building Encourage student-led communities around areas such as: Sports & Fitness | Culture & Entertainment | Career & Skills | Innovation | Social Impact | Wellbeing | Arts & Creativity Facilitate inter-hostel competitions and activities that create healthy interaction and a sense of belonging. 8. Coordination with Hostel Administration Work closely with Wardens, Residential Services, Security, Mess, Maintenance, Student Affairs and other concerned departments. Student experience issues should be differentiated from disciplinary or administrative matters and escalated through the appropriate institutional channel. 9. Evening & Weekend Presence As residential student engagement happens largely outside classroom hours, the candidate should be comfortable with flexible working schedules, including significant evening presence and selected weekend activities.
