Respite Care Companion – Stevens Point Area

Community Horizons is assisting a family in the Stevens Point area in finding a reliable and caring individual to provide respite care for their 18‑year‑old autistic son. This position offers steady part‑time hours, a supportive home environment, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for a local family.

School Year Schedule

• Tuesday: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
• Friday: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
• Thursday: 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Summer Schedule

• Monday–Friday: Regular daytime/afternoon hours
• Saturday evenings: Approximately 6 hours to support weekly date nights for parents

Position Responsibilities

• Provide safe, supportive respite care in the home
• Engage the member in preferred activities (movies, toys, iPad, books, magazines)
• Assist with feeding (meals are pre‑prepared)
• Support toileting on a 2‑hour schedule
• Assist with dressing as needed
• Offer hand‑over‑hand assistance when appropriate
• Participate in community outings
• Maintain a calm, patient, and understanding approach

• Understanding of Autism
• Patient, flexible, and non‑confrontational
• “Go with the flow” attitude
• Reliable transportation
• Must be okay with cats
• Willing to engage both at home and in the community

Additional Information

No money is exchanged in the home. A third‑party fiscal agent manages payroll and employment processing.

Pay: $16.99 per hour
