What they need

About Us

Set amongst the vines overlooking the River Derwent, The Shed Restaurant at Derwent Estate offers a relaxed yet refined dining experience celebrating Tasmania's unique produce, award-winning wines and genuine hospitality.

Opened in 2022, The Shed was built on the footprint of the property’s original shearing and tractor shed, retaining a sense of history and character while creating a beautiful contemporary space for guests to enjoy.

The restaurant is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday and is also home to weddings, functions and special events throughout the year.

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Restaurant Manager to lead our front-of-house team and continue to build on the strong reputation The Shed has established.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality — leading a team, being present on the floor and creating an experience that makes guests want to return.

Working closely with the General Manager and Cellar Door Supervisor, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operation of the restaurant, ensuring service runs smoothly while maintaining high standards across customer experience, team performance and restaurant operations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of The Shed Restaurant
  • Lead from the floor and deliver warm, professional and attentive service
  • Create an exceptional experience for our guests
  • Manage restaurant bookings, group enquiries and event sales
  • Prepare rosters and coordinate daily staffing requirements
  • Recruit, onboard, train and develop restaurant team members
  • Lead and support the front-of-house team to maintain consistent service standards
  • Respond professionally and efficiently to guest enquiries and feedback
  • Monitor restaurant performance, costs and operational efficiencies
  • Maintain accurate reporting and administration
  • Assist with social media content and updates
  • Keep website information, menus and restaurant details current
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Derwent Estate team

About You

We’re looking for someone who is confident leading a restaurant but equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves and being part of the service team.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Previous food and beverage experience in a management or supervisory position
  • A genuine passion for hospitality, food, wine and customer service
  • A positive, practical and hands-on approach to leadership
  • Strong communication and people-management skills
  • The ability to train, motivate and support a high-performing team
  • Good financial awareness and an understanding of restaurant costs and performance
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask
  • Confidence making decisions and solving problems as they arise
  • The ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to the wider leadership team
  • Experience with hospitality systems such as Deputy, SwiftPOS, OpenTable and Vinsight would be advantageous, however training can be provided

Why Derwent Estate?

Hospitality management roles offering predominantly daytime hours are hard to find — and this is one of them.

Along with working in one of Tasmania’s beautiful vineyard settings, you’ll join an established team that cares about great food, wine, service and creating a genuinely enjoyable experience for our guests.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • Daytime working hours
  • A supportive and established team environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Employee discounts on Derwent Estate wines and dining
  • Free onsite parking
  • The opportunity to learn more about our vineyard and winemaking, including cross-training within the vines and wine production for those interested

Most importantly, this is an opportunity to work with successful restaurant, lead a great team and become an important part of the next chapter of The Shed and Derwent Estate.

Ready to Join Us?

If you’re an experienced hospitality professional looking for a leadership role where you can make an impact while still enjoying the lifestyle that comes with predominantly daytime service, we’d love to hear from you.

For a confidential discussion or a copy of the Position Description, please contact [email protected].

Alternatively, apply today with your resume and a covering letter telling us a little about yourself and why you’d like to join Derwent Estate.

Applications close 11.55pm Friday, 4 September 2026.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so early applications are encouraged.

Derwent Estate is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive workplace and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds.
