Job Summary
Help us write the next chapter of The Good Egg Stoke Newington.
The Good Egg is an independent, founder-led restaurant business known for bold, Middle Eastern-inspired food, generous hospitality and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Our original restaurant on Stoke Newington Church Street has been part of the neighbourhood for years, and we're looking for an exceptional Restaurant Manager to lead its next chapter.
We're looking for someone who genuinely loves hospitality, knows how to build a brilliant team and understands what makes a restaurant commercially successful.
This is an opportunity to take real ownership of an established restaurant, working closely with our Operations Director and wider team to develop its people, strengthen its performance and help it reach its full potential.
You'll have the freedom to contribute ideas, make improvements and shape the restaurant's future, while ensuring that every guest receives the warm, memorable experience that The Good Egg is known for.
We're looking for someone who wants to build something, not simply maintain it.
Duties and Responsibilities
Restaurant Operations & Guest Experience
- Take day-to-day ownership of the restaurant, ensuring consistently excellent food, service and hospitality.
- Lead from the front, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for guests and a positive working environment for the team.
- Oversee daily service, ensuring the restaurant operates smoothly and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, organisation and operational consistency.
- Handle guest feedback professionally and build lasting relationships with our regular customers and local community.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate and develop a happy, confident and accountable front-of-house team.
- Recruit, onboard, train and support team members, building a culture of genuine hospitality and teamwork.
- Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback and help people develop their skills and confidence.
- Create effective rotas that balance great service, team wellbeing and commercial performance.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure excellent communication and a joined-up approach to service.
Commercial Performance & Business Development
- Take ownership of the restaurant's sales performance, labour costs, stock control and profitability.
- Understand the numbers behind the business and use them to make informed operational decisions.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve efficiency and strengthen the restaurant's commercial performance.
- Work with our Operations Director, chefs and wider team to develop opportunities across breakfast, retail, catering, events and local marketing.
- Help build the restaurant's reputation, strengthen its neighbourhood following and attract new customers.
Standards, Compliance & Administration
- Ensure the restaurant operates to high standards of food safety, health and safety, hygiene and licensing compliance.
- Maintain effective systems for stock management, ordering, cash handling and daily administration.
- Ensure company procedures are followed and identify opportunities to make systems simpler and more effective.
- Provide clear reporting and communication on performance, opportunities and challenges.
Experience and Skills
What we're looking for
- Proven experience managing a restaurant or leading a substantial hospitality team, ideally in a busy, quality-focused independent restaurant.
- A genuine passion for food, hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and retain a great team.
- Confidence managing restaurant finances, including sales, labour costs, stock and profitability.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to remain calm, positive and decisive under pressure.
- A hands-on approach, with a willingness to get involved wherever needed.
- A proactive, commercially minded attitude and the confidence to suggest and implement improvements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, guests and suppliers.
Experience with Middle Eastern food is welcome but not essential. We're much more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, experience and passion for hospitality.
What We Offer
