Overview

Our client is a property restoration contractor in Schaumburg, Illinois, specializing in water, fire, mold, and reconstruction losses. The company is rapidly growing its volume and uses a structured, segmented workflow to handle files efficiently. They are looking for a reliable, fast-paced professional who can produce accurate work and keep up with increasing demand.

The role focuses specifically on writing restoration estimates, rather than managing the entire claim or customer relationship. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of construction and building processes, experience with Xactimate/Cotality, and the ability to create clean, accurate scopes from available documentation. Restoration estimating experience is preferred, but strong field or construction experience can also translate well.

Key Responsibilities****Estimating & Scope Writing

• Write restoration estimates across mitigation, structural cleaning, contents cleaning, packouts, small repairs, mold remediation, asbestos statements, and exterior scopes.
• Produce change orders from details routed by the admin team and clearly identify when a site visit is needed before the scope can be written.
• Use existing macros, guides, and code libraries to maintain consistency across estimates.
• Complete assignments within their designated deadlines, as the next phase cannot begin until the estimate is completed.

Accuracy & Margin Protection

• Check quantities and material pricing against what is actually being installed to prevent approved line items from becoming job losses.
• Verify names, addresses, and claim details before submission to avoid costly errors.
• Identify estimating issues early rather than allowing production to discover them.

File Documentation

• Keep notes and documentation current on every assigned file so another team member can answer homeowner or adjuster questions using the file alone.
• Immediately flag missing information or scope questions rather than allowing a file to sit.

Systems & Software

• Use Xactimate or Cotality for estimating.
• Use DASH for file tracking, status updates, and internal workflow.
• Use Encircle for field documentation and loss capture.
• Use AI tools comfortably in daily workflows; the company values people who think ahead and use technology to improve efficiency.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience supporting a U.S.-based restoration or construction company.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, materials, and how building components and layers work together.
• Xactimate or Cotality estimating experience is strongly preferred; field or trades experience with the ability to learn estimating quickly is also welcome.
• Familiarity with restoration loss types, including water mitigation, structural and contents cleaning, packouts, mold, and asbestos.
• Comfortable working within a defined role focused on estimating while other team members handle carrier and homeowner communication.
• Naturally fast-paced and comfortable working with deadlines and urgency.
• Highly accurate and disciplined about double-checking cost-sensitive details.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Skills)

• Experience with carrier programs or TPA work, including submission and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with XactAnalysis or Alacrity for carrier submissions and coordination.
• Background as a water technician, field technician, or tradesperson in restoration.
• Experience with commercial or large-loss scopes.
