Retail Assistant

About the role

Dollar Dealers is looking for a full-time Retail Assistant to join our Hamilton team, primarily based at our Dinsdale store, with occasional shifts at our Hamilton East store.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, learning about a wide range of products and being trusted to make decisions on the shop floor.

Working in a pawnshop environment means no two days are the same. You’ll interact with customers buying, selling and borrowing against items such as electronics, tools, jewellery and more.

This is a full-time role working 5 days per week (8:30am to 5:30pm). Our stores operate 9am to 5pm - no late nights!

What you'll be doing

As a Retail Assistant (Sales & Lending Associate), you will play an important part in keeping the store running smoothly while delivering excellent customer service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting customers with sales, lending and buying transactions
• Assessing items for purchase or loan, with full training provided
• Processing sales and handling cash transactions accurately
• Managing stock, displays and overall store presentation
• Supporting store security, daily procedures and team targets

This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on retail, problem solving and building genuine relationships with customers.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, confident with customers and comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Previous retail, sales or customer service experience
• Clear communication and a friendly, professional manner
• Confidence handling cash, with good attention to detail
• Sound judgement, a positive attitude and a team-focused mindset
• Availability to work five rostered days per week and the physical ability to handle stock

Pawnbroking experience is not required - we’ll provide full training.

As this role will eventually require a pawnbroker licence, applicants must be at least 18 years old.
