What they need

Retail Team Member – Schoolwear Inc

Schoolwear Inc is a family-run school uniform retailer providing uniforms to parents and schools nationwide. With over 25 years of retail experience, we have built long-standing partnerships with a number of schools and pride ourselves on delivering excellent customer service.

Our aim is to make the school uniform journey as easy and pleasant as possible for parents, pupils and schools.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, proactive and reliable Retail Team Member to join our friendly and hardworking team.

The ideal candidate will already have previous retail experience and be confident working in a busy, customer-focused environment. We are looking for someone who has a strong team-working ethic, takes initiative and is willing to get involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the store.

As our working hours include Saturdays, we are particularly interested in candidates who live locally or within easy travelling distance of the store and can reliably commit to the required working pattern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a consistently friendly, professional and helpful service to all customers.
  • Assist parents and pupils with their school uniform purchases, including sizing, fitting and product queries.
  • Process sales and payments accurately using the till.
  • Replenish stock and ensure products are correctly displayed.
  • Assist with regular stock takes.
  • Unpack, label, organise and sort incoming stock.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and well-presented shop floor.
  • Pick and pack online and telephone orders accurately.
  • Respond professionally to customer queries by telephone and email.
  • Work closely with colleagues and support the wider team wherever required.
  • Take initiative and proactively identify tasks that need completing rather than waiting for instruction.
  • Remain organised and efficient during particularly busy trading periods.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous retail experience.
  • A strong customer-service focus.
  • A warm, friendly and approachable manner.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to use their own initiative.
  • A strong team-working ethic and willingness to support colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A reliable and hardworking approach.
  • Confidence dealing with customers face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Confidence responding to customer emails.
  • Good organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively in a busy retail environment.
  • Ideally, live locally or within easy travelling distance of the store.

Working Hours

33.5 hours per week

Monday – Thursday: 9:30am – 5:00pm
Saturday: 9:30am – 1:00pm

During our peak back-to-school period, approximately Mid August – Mid September, working hours may increase to up to 45 hours per week, Monday to Saturday.

Flexibility during this particularly busy period is essential.

Training & Development

We will provide:

  • One-to-one training
  • Ongoing support and mentoring
  • Regular feedback
  • Opportunities to develop your retail and customer-service skills

Recruitment Process

Suitable applicants will initially be invited to a screening call.

Candidates who are successful at the screening stage will then be invited to attend a face-to-face interview.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with customers, works well as part of a team and, most importantly, is proactive, dependable and willing to get stuck in.
