What they need

Retail Assistant – Manchester

Contract: Full-time or Part-time (16–37.5 hours per week)

Pay: £14 – £16 per hour + generous staff discount

The Role at a Glance

If you’re someone who notices when a display is slightly messy, feels good about leaving a space tidier than you found it, and naturally chats with people without making it feel forced, you’ll fit right in with our shop floor team.

We run a high-footfall store in Central Manchester where clean visual presentation and smooth, straightforward customer service are central to what we do. We’re looking for a reliable Retail Assistant to help keep the store running seamlessly from opening to close.

Responsibilities & Daily Tasks

  • Customer Care: Greet shoppers, answer stock enquiries, and offer polite, non-pushy help when customers need guidance.
  • Checkout & Till Operations: Process card and cash payments accurately, handle customer exchanges or returns, and manage receipts smoothly.
  • Stock Management: Unpack morning deliveries, verify counts against delivery notes, and keep stockroom shelves logically arranged.
  • Floor Replenishment: Restock rails, shelves, and featured display tables throughout trading hours so sizes and items stay fully available.
  • Visual Standards: Keep display surfaces clean, organize fitting rooms, and ensure promotional signage is correctly placed.
  • Inventory Control: Participate in periodic stocktakes, price-label checks, and routine security tagging.

Who We’re Looking ForPrevious retail experience is a plus, but not essential as full training is provided.

We are far more interested in your work ethic and how you interact with people than a long CV. Candidates with transferable skills from hospitality, customer support, food service, administration, or university group work are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Friendly & Clear Communicator: Easygoing, polite, and comfortable talking to a wide range of shoppers.
  • Keen Eye for Detail: Spotting misplaced stock, incorrect price tags, or untidy displays quickly.
  • Dependable & Punctual: Showing up on time for scheduled shifts, especially during peak weekend trading hours.
  • Comfort with Numbers: Basic numeracy for till operations, cash handling, and stock counting.

Training, Coaching & Growth

We don't expect you to know everything on day one. You’ll be paired with a mentor on the shop floor who will guide you through:

  • Till & POS Systems: Hands-on training on operating checkouts, processing refunds, and handling gift cards.
  • Visual Merchandising: Practical tips on product placement, folding standards, and display aesthetics.
  • Continuous Coaching: Short weekly check-ins with store supervisors to review progress, answer questions, and offer constructive feedback.
  • Future Progression: Clear pathways to take on stock coordination, keyholding responsibilities, or shift supervisor duties over time.

Rewards & Perks

  • Generous Staff Discount: Significant savings across all in-store product lines
  • Flexible Rotas: Shift patterns planned and shared in advance
  • Supportive Environment: Structured initial training, team socials, and recognition for consistent work

How to Apply

Send us your CV along with a short line confirming your current weekly availability. We assess applications on a rolling basis and will reach out directly for informal interviews.

Pay: £14.00-£16.00 per hour
