Retail Assistant Manager

Duties

• Oversee daily store operations, including sales, inventory control, and customer service excellence
• Lead, train, and develop retail staff through effective onboarding, coaching, and performance evaluations
• Manage shift schedules, ensuring optimal coverage during peak hours and special promotions
• Handle customer inquiries with professionalism using phone etiquette and in-person communication skills
• Conduct employee interviews for recruiting new team members and participate in onboarding processes
• Monitor inventory levels, coordinate purchasing, and implement merchandising strategies to maximize sales
• Utilize POS systems for transactions, cash handling, and sales reporting with accuracy and integrity

Skills

• Proven management experience within the retail industry, including supervising teams and managing store operations
• Strong negotiation skills to optimize purchasing agreements and vendor relationships
• Excellent communication skills in multiple languages; bilingual abilities are a plus
• Demonstrated proficiency in inventory management, bookkeeping, payroll processing, and cash handling
• Ability to lead training & development initiatives focused on retail sales techniques and operational procedures
• Familiarity with POS systems, retail math calculations, pricing strategies, and sales management tools
• Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail in stock control and merchandising
• Experience with budgeting, operational management, and store management best practices
• Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate teams through managerial communication and conflict resolution
• Basic math skills essential for retail math calculations such as discounts, profit margins, and inventory valuation
• Knowledge of grocery store operations or similar retail environments is advantageous
