Retail Buyer

About the Role

Tokyo Lifestyle is seeking an experienced Retail Buyer to manage product sourcing, purchasing, supplier relationships and merchandise planning across our Australian retail business.

The role will focus on product selection, purchasing strategy, supplier management, market analysis, inventory planning and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Research market trends, consumer preferences and competitor activity to identify new product and category opportunities
• Select and develop product ranges in line with business objectives, customer demand and market trends
• Source and evaluate products and suppliers
• Negotiate product pricing, purchasing terms, minimum order quantities, promotional arrangements and delivery conditions with suppliers
• Develop purchasing plans and schedules according to sales forecasts, seasonal requirements and business budgets
• Determine appropriate purchasing quantities based on sales performance, demand forecasts and inventory requirements
• Monitor sales data, inventory levels, stock turnover and product performance to support purchasing decisions
• Analyse product costs, margins and overall commercial performance
• Identify high-performing and slow-moving products and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly
• Provide recommendations regarding product pricing, range planning and promotional activities
• Manage supplier relationships and regularly review supplier performance, pricing and delivery outcomes
• Work closely with warehouse, sales and management teams on product demand forecasting, inventory and merchandise planning
• Monitor market developments and identify opportunities to introduce new brands, products and categories
• Support long-term merchandise and product planning across the business
• Prepare purchasing, product performance and market analysis reports for senior management

Requirements

• Proven experience in product sourcing, buying and supplier management
• Strong negotiation and commercial skills
• Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management and merchandise planning
• Experience developing purchasing plans and working with budgets and sales forecasts
• Strong experience analysing sales data, product performance, margins and market trends
• Ability to identify consumer trends and translate market insights into purchasing decisions
• Strong analytical, numerical and organisational skills
• Excellent communication, negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
• Ability to work independently and make commercially sound purchasing decisions
• High level of attention to detail and accountability
• Experience managing multiple product categories is highly desirable
• Experience in cosmetics, beauty, lifestyle, fashion, gift or specialty retail is highly regarded
• Mandarin or Japanese language skills are advantageous due to communication with international suppliers and team

Pay: $83,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
