About Us

Motto Motto means more.

Motto Motto brings restaurant-quality Japanese food into a modern, fast-casual setting. Born from the kitchen of Sono, one of Australia’s most awarded Japanese restaurants, we bring the quality and care of traditional Japanese fine dining to everyday dining.

At Motto Motto Japanese Kitchen Indooroopilly, we serve ramen, Japanese curry, donburi and Japanese comfort food in a relaxed, quick-service environment. Our focus is on quality ingredients, carefully prepared food and friendly, efficient service.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Indooroopilly store. This full-time, ongoing position suits a hands-on manager with strong leadership, customer service and operational management skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing daily store operations, ensuring consistent food quality, customer service, cleanliness and presentation in accordance with Motto Motto brand standards;
  • Recruiting, training, rostering, supervising and managing kitchen and front-of-house employees;
  • Monitoring employee performance, providing feedback and identifying training and development needs;
  • Coordinating staffing and workflows to maintain efficient operations during peak trading periods;
  • Monitoring inventory, ordering supplies and overseeing stock rotation, storage and wastage control;
  • Leading the team to deliver friendly, efficient customer service and resolving customer enquiries and complaints;
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, allergen management, work health and safety and other applicable requirements;
  • Preparing and managing store budgets, monitoring expenditure and implementing appropriate cost controls;
  • Overseeing cash handling, point-of-sale procedures, daily sales reconciliations and opening and closing procedures;
  • Implementing approved pricing, promotional and product presentation initiatives to support sales;
  • Analysing sales, staffing, inventory and wastage data, preparing regular performance reports and providing recommendations to management; and
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to customer satisfaction, store profitability and operational efficiency.

Position Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Diploma-level qualification or higher;
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a similar retail management or store management role within the fast-food, food retail or hospitality industry;
  • Sound knowledge of Japanese cuisine, food handling, food safety and hygiene standards;
  • Strong leadership, communication and employee management skills;
  • Sound organisational and operational management skills, including rostering, inventory management and cost control;
  • A customer-focused approach and the ability to resolve operational issues effectively; and
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment across a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as reasonably required.

What We Offer

  • An annual salary of $85,000 plus superannuation;
  • A full-time position with 38 ordinary hours per week;
  • Applicable overtime, penalty rates, allowances and other entitlements in accordance with the relevant industrial instrument and legislation;
  • The opportunity to lead a store within an established Japanese dining brand; and
  • A supportive and team-focused working environment.
