Retail Security Officer

Job Summary

The Retail Security Officer provides a visible, professional, and proactive security presence on the shop floor. Acting as a human deterrent to criminal activity, the role balances strict asset protection with high-quality customer service, de-escalating conflicts, and assisting store management during daily operations and emergencies.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Loss Prevention & Deterrence: Conduct regular patrols of the shop floor, fitting rooms, and perimeter to deter shoplifting, fraud, and vandalism. Identify suspicious behaviour using pattern recognition.
• Incident Response & Detention: Respond promptly to security breaches or alarms. When necessary—and within legal limits and company guidelines—safely detain suspected shoplifters until law enforcement arrives.
• Conflict De-escalation: Diffuse tense situations, anti-social behaviour, or customer disputes calmly and professionally
• Customer Service & Front-of-House: Act as an approachable point of contact. Greet customers, answer basic queries, and assist visitors just like a customer service associate

Typical Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensing: A valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) Licence

Pay: £12.71-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 – 32.0 per week
