Retail Associate – Part-Time -Temporary

Company Introduction

Tony’s Retro Games LLC is a family-owned retro gaming retail business focused on providing a welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional experience for collectors, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and customers of all ages.

Our team is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, friendly, and productive store while providing reliable customer service and protecting company inventory, equipment, and reputation.

We are looking for professional, dependable, trustworthy, adaptable, and hardworking individuals who are willing to learn and contribute to the overall operation of the store.

Position Overview

The Retail Associate is a customer-facing retail position responsible for customer service, point-of-sale operations, merchandise handling, store maintenance, and other daily retail operations.

This is not a cashier-only position. Employees may be assigned different retail and operational duties based on business needs, staffing, training, experience, and demonstrated ability.

Employees are expected to remain productive throughout their scheduled shift and complete assigned duties when they are not actively assisting customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Customer Service & Cashiering

  • Provide friendly, professional customer service.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
  • Process sales, returns, exchanges, store credit, and other approved transactions.
  • Answer customer questions and assist with products.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance.

Trade-Ins & Merchandise

After appropriate training and authorization, employees may:

  • Receive, evaluate, and process customer trade-ins.
  • Test games, consoles, controllers, accessories, and other merchandise.
  • Research product information and pricing using company-approved resources.
  • Prepare merchandise for sale through cleaning, testing, labeling, and organization.
  • Complete required trade-in records, receipts, and logs.
  • Report inventory, condition, pricing, or documentation concerns to management.
  • Ask management for assistance when a situation falls outside their training or authorization.

Inventory & Store Operations

  • Stock, organize, label, and merchandise products.
  • Assist with inventory counts and inventory projects.
  • Maintain displays and merchandise presentation.
  • Clean and maintain the store, equipment, counters, and displays.
  • Restock merchandise and supplies.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures when assigned.
  • Complete assigned checklists, projects, and operational tasks.

Business Errands & Off-Site Duties

Employees may occasionally be required to perform reasonable business-related errands or other off-site duties when assigned by management, such as picking up supplies, delivering or retrieving business materials, purchasing approved supplies, or visiting nearby businesses or service providers.

Employees will only be expected to perform errands that are reasonably related to the business and that they are authorized and able to safely perform.

General Responsibilities

  • Follow company procedures regarding cash handling, trade-ins, inventory, customer information, security, and equipment.
  • Communicate customer concerns, inventory discrepancies, equipment problems, and other operational issues to management.
  • Assist coworkers and management when needed.
  • Protect company property, merchandise, equipment, money, records, and confidential information.
  • Perform other reasonable retail, operational, administrative, customer-service, or business-related duties as assigned based on the needs of the business.

Flexibility & Performance Expectations

Tony’s Retro Games is a small business, and store needs may change from day to day.

Employees should not expect their responsibilities to be limited solely to cashiering, customer service, or the duties they initially perform when hired. Employees may be assigned to trade-ins, testing, inventory, cleaning, stocking, merchandising, organization, business errands, or other retail-related responsibilities.

Employees are expected to:

  • Arrive on time and be ready to work at the beginning of each scheduled shift.
  • Remain productive throughout the workday.
  • Follow instructions and company procedures.
  • Complete assigned tasks without repeatedly requiring reminders.
  • Ask questions when unsure rather than guessing or bypassing procedures.
  • Accept reasonable direction, coaching, and feedback.
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers and management.
  • Demonstrate initiative during slower periods.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain professional conduct and responsibly handle company property and information.

Personal gaming, socializing, phone use, browsing, or other non-work activities are not a substitute for completing assigned job duties.

Qualifications

  • Previous retail, customer service, cashier, or similar experience is desired.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and follow counterfeit-detection procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer and technology skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to learn POS, inventory, pricing, trade-in, and testing procedures.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to accept direction, feedback, and responsibilities outside of cashiering.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to remain productive during slower periods.

Interest or knowledge in retro gaming is helpful, but professionalism, reliability, willingness to learn, adaptability, and work ethic are equally important.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This position is primarily performed in a retail store environment and may require employees to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, organize merchandise, operate store equipment, and perform assigned duties safely.

Employees may also perform reasonable business errands when authorized and able to safely do so.

Reasonable accommodations may be considered where applicable.
