The ideal candidate brings strong reverse mortgage expertise, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to serving older homeowners with patience, clarity, and professionalism. The manager partners with sales, processing, underwriting, closing, and compliance to deliver accurate, timely, and responsible lending services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage staffing, workloads, and pipeline priorities to support timely loan completion.
  • Establish and maintain department procedures, training resources, and service standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and professional development.
  • Report department results, staffing needs, and operational concerns to leadership.

HECM Lending Operations

  • Oversee the reverse mortgage pipeline from application through closing and funding, coordinating with the teams responsible for each stage.
  • Serve as a resource on HECM products, borrower eligibility, counseling documentation, financial assessment, property requirements, and loan structure.
  • Monitor files for completeness and coordinate resolution of outstanding conditions, title issues, appraisal concerns, and other obstacles.
  • Support accurate preparation and timely delivery of required disclosures and loan documentation.
  • Coordinate with underwriting on complex scenarios while respecting established credit authority.
  • Oversee operational handoffs for applicable post-closing requirements and servicing transfers.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex files and borrower concerns.

Compliance and Quality Control

  • Partner with compliance to maintain procedures consistent with applicable HUD/FHA requirements, investor guidelines, and company policies.
  • Communicate program and policy changes to staff and incorporate them into department training.
  • Monitor adherence to counseling requirements and appropriate boundaries between lender guidance and independent counseling.
  • Reinforce clear, accurate borrower communications and appropriate handling of confidential information.
  • Support quality reviews, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Escalate potential fraud, undue influence, financial exploitation, or other concerns through established company procedures.
  • Coordinate compliance review of reverse mortgage advertising, presentations, and educational materials.

Borrower Experience and Business Development

  • Promote a respectful, accessible lending experience for older homeowners.
  • Ensure staff explain loan features, costs, borrower obligations, and repayment events clearly and accurately.
  • Support communication with borrowers’ authorized representatives and professional advisers, consistent with privacy requirements and borrower consent.
  • Partner with sales leadership to develop responsible growth strategies and referral relationships.
  • Provide product education and scenario support to loan officers and internal business partners.
  • Resolve service concerns promptly and identify opportunities to improve the borrower experience.

Reporting and Process Improvement

  • Track application volume, conversion rates, cycle times, fallout, loan quality, and borrower satisfaction.
  • Identify processing delays and implement practical improvements.
  • Monitor department expenses and resource needs against established business goals.
  • Recommend technology and workflow improvements that support accuracy, efficiency, and service.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of mortgage industry experience, including at least three years of direct reverse mortgage or HECM experience.
  • Two or more years of supervisory, management, or team leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of HECM origination and operations, including counseling, financial assessment, processing, underwriting coordination, and closing.
  • Experience applying HUD/FHA requirements, investor guidelines, and internal lending policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a loan pipeline, resolve complex issues, and meet operational deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and work sensitively with older borrowers.
  • Proficiency with mortgage loan origination systems, Microsoft Office, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any licenses or registrations required for assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience with HECM for Purchase and proprietary reverse mortgage products.
  • Experience building or expanding a reverse mortgage department.
  • Experience supporting audits, quality control reviews, and operational improvements.
  • Certified Reverse Mortgage Professional (CRMP) designation.

Measures of Success

  • Consistent loan quality and adherence to applicable requirements.
  • Timely processing, closing, and funding.
  • Clear borrower communication and effective issue resolution.
  • Strong employee development and team performance.
  • Responsible growth aligned with department capacity and service standards.
  • Effective identification and resolution of operational risks.
