What they need

We're looking for a Radio Frequency Engineer to join an innovative engineering team delivering advanced wireless sensing, secure communications and electronic systems that support critical defence and national security programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting edge RF technology used in challenging, real-world environments. You'll play a key role in validating and testing complex RF and mixed-signal hardware, ensuring products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability and quality before deployment.

The Role

As an RF Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, executing and automating test activities across a range of sophisticated RF systems. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll collaborate closely with RF, Hardware, Software and Systems Engineers to verify performance, investigate technical issues and support product development throughout the engineering lifecycle.

This is a hands role, ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working with advanced communications technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test, validate and characterise RF hardware, subsystems and wireless communication systems.
  • Perform RF measurements using laboratory equipment including spectrum analysers, vector network analysers (VNAs), signal generators and oscilloscopes.
  • Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python to improve efficiency and repeatability.
  • Support hardware integration, bring up and fault finding activities.
  • Analyse RF performance including gain, bandwidth, sensitivity, noise figure, dynamic range and overall system performance.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, test reports and repeatable test procedures.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve product performance.
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality technology supporting defence and secure communications applications.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Experience testing, validating or characterising RF or wireless communication systems.
  • Strong hands on RF laboratory experience.
  • Experience developing automated test scripts using Python.
  • Good understanding of RF measurement techniques and signal chain performance.
  • Strong analytical skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within engineering teams.

Desirable

  • Experience with Software Defined Radio (SDR).
  • Knowledge of SCPI or instrument API automation.
  • Previous experience within the defence, aerospace, telecommunications or secure communications sectors.
  • Current SC Security Clearance, or eligibility to obtain clearance.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting edge RF technology that supports some of the UK's most important defence and security programmes. You'll join a highly skilled engineering team where you'll have the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, develop your expertise and contribute to innovative systems that make a genuine operational impact.
