In India, CTS DC India Private Limited extends CTS Group's engineering, manufacturing, and delivery capability to data center developers, hyperscalers, and colocation providers across the country.

Role Overview

The Rigging Operator is responsible for the safe planning, setup, and execution of lifting and material-handling operations at CTS DC India's Chennai facility and project sites. The role involves selecting appropriate rigging equipment, inspecting lifting gear, and working closely with crane operators and site teams to move heavy equipment, modular units, and materials safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong practical knowledge of rigging methods, load calculations, and lifting safety standards, contributing directly to the safe and timely execution of data centre production and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare rigging arrangements for lifting, moving, loading, and unloading of EPODs, including selection of slings, shackles, chains, spreader beams, and other lifting accessories appropriate to the load.
  • Inspect lifting gear and rigging equipment before use, identifying and reporting worn, damaged, or non-compliant equipment.
  • Calculate load weights, centres of gravity, and sling angles for EPODs and associated equipment to determine safe lifting configurations.
  • Signal and direct crane and hoist operators during EPOD lifts, using standard hand signals and radio communication.
  • Rig, lift, and position EPODs for movement between production bays, storage/yard areas, and loading points.
  • Load and unload EPODs onto and off trailers and transport vehicles, ensuring correct securing, chocking, and lashing for safe transport.
  • Secure and stabilise EPODs and loads during lifting, transport, and placement to prevent shifting or damage.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, forklift drivers, trailer/transport teams, and production supervisors to sequence EPOD moves and loading operations safely within the work area.
  • Maintain rigging logs, lift plans, and equipment inspection records in line with company procedures.
  • Follow permit-to-work and lift plan procedures for critical and non-routine lifts.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, including use of PPE and safe working practices around cranes, trailers, and lifting equipment.

Required Skills and Experience

  • ITI certificate or equivalent trade qualification; rigger training/certification from a recognised institute is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a rigger in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment; experience moving, loading, and unloading modular units, containers, skids, or similarly large equipment is an advantage.
  • Valid rigger competency certificate/license as per applicable Indian statutory requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of sling types, lifting accessories, spreader beams, load charts, and safe working load (SWL) limits for large modular loads.
  • Experience with loading and unloading large units onto trailers/transport vehicles, including securing, chocking, and lashing for road transport.
  • Ability to read basic lift plans and rigging diagrams.
  • Understanding of crane signalling procedures and safe communication practices during lifts.
  • Awareness of statutory and factory safety regulations relating to lifting operations.
  • Physically fit and able to work at heights and in an active production/yard environment.
  • Good attention to detail, with a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Willingness to work shifts and flexible hours to support production, loading, and dispatch schedules.
