What they need
Risk and Training Officer – Coremax
Location: Stikland
Salary: To be discussed, depending on experience and suitability
Position Level: Supervisory
Reporting To: Group Finance Officer
Start Date: To be confirmed
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a technically strong, analytical and accountable Risk and Training Officer to support quality, risk management and training across the AluVision Group, including Coremax and operations in Zambia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating repair, rework and prevention (PI) cases, identifying root causes, recommending preventive actions and following approved actions through to verified implementation.
The role also coordinates group training requirements, maintains the operational risk register and supports compliance with applicable training and skills development requirements.
This position requires someone who can investigate problems objectively, communicate findings clearly, work effectively with managers across different business units and ensure that corrective actions address the underlying cause rather than simply the immediate problem.
The successful candidate must be comfortable holding people accountable for agreed actions while maintaining professional relationships and respecting the responsibilities of line management.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate repair, rework and prevention (PI) cases to establish root causes.
- Gather and evaluate evidence, interview relevant employees and document factual findings.
- Prepare written investigation findings and recommend preventive actions and accountability measures where appropriate.
- Agree action owners, deadlines and evidence requirements for approved corrective and preventive actions.
- Track approved actions through to completion and verify their effectiveness before recommending case closure.
- Identify recurring technical failures across companies, products, suppliers and stages of delivery.
- Monitor overdue actions and escalate unresolved issues through the appropriate management channels.
- Maintain the operational risk register, including identified risks, mitigation controls and accountable owners.
- Build and maintain the group training matrix, recording required competencies, training completion and evidence of competence.
- Identify training needs where a confirmed knowledge or skills gap contributes to a failure.
- Coordinate approved training activities and monitor whether training improves workplace competence.
- Support the Group's Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) responsibilities, including Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) submissions.
- Maintain accurate PI, risk and training records in ERPNext or the approved business system.
- Analyse PI trends and quantify the direct costs of failures where feasible.
- Prepare monthly PI, risk and training reports for the Group Finance Officer, Group Executive Officer and Business Managers.
- Work collaboratively with Business Managers and operational teams to improve workmanship, technical standards and prevention controls.
- Maintain confidentiality, procedural fairness and objectivity throughout investigations.
Important: The role owns the investigation and follow-up process, not the operational corrective action itself. Line managers retain responsibility for actions within their areas, and management determines accountability outcomes. Health and safety investigations are excluded; safety-related elements must be referred immediately to the H&S function.
Minimum Requirements
- At least five years of relevant installation experience.
- Strong technical competence in the discipline being supervised.
- Practical technical knowledge of aluminium, glass, glazing or fenestration installation.
- At least two years of supervisory or management exposure.
- Relevant prior experience in a technical discipline.
- Understanding of applicable technical standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of structured root-cause analysis methods, such as 5 Whys and cause-and-effect analysis.
- Understanding of the sales process, including specification, measurement and quoting.
- Experience identifying technical failures, investigating their causes and recommending preventive measures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to prepare clear, factual written reports and explain technical requirements to employees and managers.
- Understanding of procedural fairness in workplace investigations.
- Ability to influence others and drive implementation without direct line authority.
- Fluent English communication.
- Valid Code B driver's licence.
- Competent user of ERPNext or an equivalent ERP system, and Excel.
Key Personal Attributes
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Honesty, integrity and transparency.
- Strong personal accountability and ownership of mistakes.
- Independence, fairness and sound judgement.
- Attention to evidence, facts and detail.
- Reliability and consistent follow-through on commitments.
- Professional conduct under pressure.
- The ability to challenge others firmly without being abrasive.
- Confidence in questioning assumptions and escalating unresolved issues appropriately.
- Constructive responses to feedback.
- Discretion when handling confidential personnel and commercial information.
- A commitment to verified corrective action and preventing repeat failures.
Advantageous Experience
- Experience in the aluminium, glass and fenestration industry.
- Exposure to cross-company or multi-site operations.
- Experience with training administration and SETA processes.
- Experience maintaining risk registers and analysing operational trends.
- Afrikaans language capability.
How to Apply
If you have the required technical experience, analytical ability and commitment to improving quality and preventing recurring failures, please submit your CV for consideration.
Please ensure your CV clearly reflects your relevant installation experience, supervisory or management exposure, technical problem-solving experience and involvement in quality investigations, corrective actions, training coordination or risk management.
Applications should also indicate your experience with ERP systems, Excel, training administration and any relevant SETA processes.
Only candidates who meet the critical technical and experience requirements will be considered.
