What they need

Shape better decisions. Strengthen resilience. Protect what matters.

Fulltime - Ongoing

Salary: Starting from $112,404 + Superannuation

This is not a typical risk management role. And the City of Playford is not a typical council.

Playford is one of South Australia's fastest growing and most dynamic communities, a place where growth, transformation and community outcomes go hand in hand. As our city continues to evolve, effective risk and crisis management plays a critical role in ensuring we deliver safe, sustainable and high-performing services for our community.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Risk Specialist to support the ongoing implementation and evolution of Council's Integrated Risk Management Framework and Crisis Management Response Framework.

Why this role matters

Strong risk management is more than compliance. It enables better decisions, supports innovation and helps organisations navigate uncertainty with confidence.

As the Risk Specialist, you will play a key role in embedding a proactive risk culture across the organisation. Whether you're providing expert advice, developing frameworks and resources, improving organisational capability or supporting crisis preparedness, your work will directly contribute to stronger governance, organisational resilience and improved community outcomes.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact by helping leaders and teams manage risk effectively, respond confidently to emerging challenges and support long-term organisational success.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will:

  • Support the implementation, development and review of the Integrated Risk Management Framework and Crisis Management Response Framework, including associated plans, processes and toolkits.
  • Provide practical advice, support and assistance to internal and external stakeholders on risk management, and crisis management matters.
  • Deliver key risk and crisis management activities across the organisation in line with legislative requirements and agreed timeframes.
  • Develop tools, resources, training and guidance to build capability and support consistent risk management practice.
  • Prepare accurate correspondence, documentation and reports for management, Council and the Corporate Governance Committee as required.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships to ensure risk, and crisis management practices remain fit for purpose and support organisational goals.

For further information about the role, please refer to the attached Position Description.

Who you are

You are more than a risk professional. You are a trusted advisor, strategic thinker and problem solver who can translate complex concepts into practical outcomes.

You bring:

  • Experience in risk management, governance, compliance, audit, emergency management, business continuity or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience supporting the development and implementation of risk management frameworks, policies and systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, policies, training materials and executive-level documentation.
  • The ability to influence and support a positive organisational risk culture.
Sound judgement, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • A collaborative approach focused on continuous improvement and organisational success.
  • Experience working within local government or other complex organisational environments will be highly regarded.

Why Playford

At the City of Playford, you'll find:

  • A fast-growing, forward-thinking organisation where your work has visible impact.
The opportunity to influence organisational resilience, governance and strategic decision-making.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of operational, strategic and emerging risk challenges.
A collaborative culture that values accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • The chance to contribute to meaningful outcomes that benefit our organisation, our people and our community.

Incumbents in this position may be required to possess, or be willing to obtain, a National Criminal History Clearance.
