Critical Care Nurse

Job Summary Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients in a critical care setting. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice. This role requires expertise in critical care nursing, specifically in managing patients with multi-system failure, those requiring ventilation, neuro/trauma cases, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic monitoring.

Job Requirements

Education And Work Experience

• High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
• Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.): Required
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
• Successful completion of a Critical Care Nursing course: Required
• Six months of previous critical care experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current RN license in the state of practice: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per policy: Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor per policy: Required
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department.

Essential Functions

• Provide appropriate nursing interventions in both stable and emergent patient situations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in routine nursing skills, including medication administration, intravenous therapy, and the care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains.
• Ensure the safe use of medical equipment in critical care settings.
• Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and manage patient care during life-threatening emergencies.
• Verify alarm settings with Monitor Technicians as per policy guidelines.
• Exhibit knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for optimal monitoring based on patient presentation.
• Demonstrate skills related to the care and management of patients requiring ICP and ventriculostomy monitoring.
• Conduct thorough assessments and interventions for changes in patient conditions.
