This role demands quick decision-making, effective communication, and compassionate patient care in a fast-paced environment. You will also be responsible for educating patients and their families about treatment plans and post-discharge care to ensure continuity and safety. Ultimately, your work will directly impact patient outcomes and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency care services provided at the facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification or must obtain by end of orientation.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably MediTech.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume urban emergency department.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform rapid and accurate patient assessments upon arrival to the emergency department to determine the severity of conditions and prioritize care.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and standards.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and clinical status continuously, documenting changes and communicating critical information promptly to the healthcare team.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and their families during stressful and emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including nursing notes, medication administration, and treatment outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with emergency nursing best practices and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and infection control standards within the emergency department.

Skills:

The required skills such as clinical assessment, patient monitoring, and medication administration are essential for delivering timely and effective emergency care. Strong communication skills enable you to coordinate efficiently with multidisciplinary teams and provide clear explanations to patients and families under stress. Critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills are vital for prioritizing care and responding to dynamic clinical situations. Preferred skills like ACLS and PALS certifications enhance your ability to manage complex cardiac and pediatric emergencies confidently. Familiarity with electronic health records streamlines documentation and information sharing, improving overall workflow and patient safety in the emergency department.
