Road & Bridge Driver/Operator

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Equipment Operator and Driver to join our team. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and timely repairs to roads and bridges throughout Wabaunsee County.

As an Operator, you will be responsible for managing your assigned vehicle. You will have the opportunity to work with different types of equipment, including dump trucks, forklifts, loaders, etc.

All applicants must be dependable, at least 18 years old, have or be able to obtain a Kansas CDL driver’s license. On-site CDL training available. Have the ability to operate and maintain county owned equipment. Mechanical and construction skills are a plus. Competitive wages plus county benefit package, including paid holidays and sick leave. Four – ten hour – shifts year around (Monday thru Thursday). Wabaunsee County is a drug and alcohol – free workplace and an EOE. Duties

• Operate and maintain county owned equipment.
• Load and unload cargo as required.
• Communicate effectively with team regarding delivery schedules and any potential issues.
• Utilize manual transmission skills when necessary for specific loads or conditions.
• Operate forklifts or other equipment as needed for loading and unloading tasks.
• Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations related to commercial driving.

Preferred Experience:

• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record. (On-site CDL Training available)
• Proven experience in truck driving. Mechanical and construction skills are a plus.
• Familiarity with various types of trailers including flatbed, dump truck, and lowboy.
• Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles effectively.
• Strong understanding of equipment handling procedures and safety protocols.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
• Must be able to pass background checks and drug screenings as required by company policy.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
