About the Company

Desertman Transporting and Contracting LLC is an Abu Dhabi-based company engaged in transportation and contracting activities. We are looking for an experienced and hardworking Roadwork Chargehand to join our team and support our road construction and infrastructure projects.

Job Summary

The Roadwork Chargehand will be responsible for supervising workers and daily roadwork activities at the project site. The successful candidate should have practical experience in road construction, excavation, grading, subgrade preparation, kerbstone installation, paving, asphalt works, and related civil works.

The candidate should be hands-on, safety-conscious, and able to coordinate effectively with the Site Engineer, Foreman, operators, and workers.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily roadwork activities and assigned workers.
• Allocate workers to different activities according to the daily work plan.
• Ensure work is carried out according to drawings, specifications, and instructions from the Site Engineer/Foreman.
• Supervise road excavation, filling, grading, leveling, and compaction activities.
• Supervise preparation of subgrade, sub-base, and road base.
• Coordinate activities involving rollers, graders, excavators, loaders, water tankers, and other construction equipment.
• Supervise kerbstone, interlock/paver, concrete, drainage, and related roadworks.
• Assist with asphalt paving and coordinate workers during asphalt laying activities.
• Check work areas and ensure proper line, level, slope, and alignment as instructed by the surveyor/site engineer.
• Coordinate with equipment operators and ensure efficient utilization of machinery.
• Monitor manpower, materials, and equipment requirements.
• Ensure materials are properly used and avoid unnecessary wastage.
• Maintain good housekeeping at the work area.
• Report daily progress, site problems, manpower requirements, and material requirements to the Foreman/Site Engineer.
• Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
• Ensure workers follow approved work methods and project requirements.
• Identify unsafe conditions and immediately report them to the responsible supervisor.
• Ensure workers use the required PPE and follow site safety procedures.
• Assist in maintaining safe working conditions around traffic, excavation, and road construction areas.
• Support inspection activities and rectify site issues as instructed.
• Perform other roadwork-related duties assigned by the Foreman or Site Engineer.

Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in road construction or civil infrastructure projects.
• UAE/GCC experience is preferred.
• Strong practical experience in roadworks and civil construction.
• Experience in excavation, grading, filling, compaction, subgrade, sub-base, and road base works.
• Experience with kerbstone, interlock/paving, drainage, concrete, and asphalt works is an advantage.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate a team of workers.
• Ability to understand basic construction drawings and site instructions.
• Basic understanding of levels, slopes, alignment, and roadwork terminology.
• Experience working around heavy equipment such as excavators, graders, rollers, loaders, and water tankers.
• Good knowledge of construction site safety requirements.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Physically fit and willing to work outdoors and on active construction sites.
• Candidates currently available in the UAE are preferred.
• Immediate joiners or candidates with a short notice period are preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

We are looking for a hands-on Roadwork Chargehand who can directly supervise workers and coordinate daily road construction activities.

Candidates with experience in UAE road and infrastructure projects, particularly in excavation, grading, subgrade/sub-base preparation, kerbstone, drainage, paving, and asphalt works, will be preferred.

The candidate should be able to work effectively with Site Engineers, Surveyors, Foremen, equipment operators, and labor teams.
