Elephant & Co.

ROAMING CHEF
The Elephant Crossing, Ironbridge & Elephant Underground, Shrewsbury
We are looking for an experienced, reliable and adaptable chef to join our growing independent business as a Roaming Chef, working between our two venues — The Elephant Crossing in Ironbridge and Elephant Underground in Shrewsbury.
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys working in different kitchens, is confident stepping into a service and can work independently without needing constant supervision.
We are also potentially opening a third location in Shrewsbury in the coming months, giving the role the opportunity to develop as the business grows.
ABOUT OUR VENUES
The Elephant Crossing is our established venue in Ironbridge, with a busy kitchen and a varied food operation.
Elephant Underground is our Shrewsbury venue, a smaller, independent space with a focus on homemade, entirely gluten-free food.
The two venues are different, which makes this a varied role. You will have the opportunity to work with different teams, menus and kitchen setups rather than doing exactly the same thing every day.
THE ROLE
As our Roaming Chef, you will provide additional support across both venues, helping cover holidays, days off and busy periods, as well as working regular shifts as part of the kitchen teams.
You will need to be confident walking into a kitchen, understanding what needs doing and getting on with it.
The role will include:

Working between The Elephant Crossing in Ironbridge and Elephant Underground in Shrewsbury

Providing kitchen cover where required

Preparing and producing our food to a consistently high standard

Supporting kitchen teams during busy services

Maintaining consistent food quality and presentation

Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation

Helping with prep, service and kitchen close-down

Adapting quickly to different kitchen setups, menus and teams

Potentially supporting the opening of our new Shrewsbury location

ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who is:

An experienced professional chef

Confident working independently

Reliable, flexible and adaptable

Comfortable moving between different kitchens and teams

Able to step into a service and get stuck in

Organised and able to manage their time effectively

Calm and capable during busy services

Passionate about producing good-quality food

Happy working as part of a small independent business

Our food at Elephant Underground is homemade and entirely gluten-free, so experience with gluten-free food preparation and cross-contamination is beneficial. Full training on our procedures will be provided.
THE HOURS
We can be flexible depending on what you are looking for.
The role can range from:
Part-time: 2 days / approximately 14 hours per week
through to
Full-time: 5 days / approximately 35–40 hours per week
We are happy to discuss the hours and working pattern with the right candidate.
