Robotic Engineer (Technologist)

Key Responsibilities

Robotics & Drone Technology Development

• Design, develop, prototype, test, and evaluate robotic and drone systems for industrial applications.
• Develop conceptual designs and Proof-of-Concept (PoC) solutions prior to developing detailed scopes of work for vendors or implementation partners.
• Develop robotic system architectures, control concepts, and control algorithms.
• Integrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, sensor, actuator, and communication components.
• Integrate robots and drones with external modules such as RGB cameras, thermal cameras, Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras, sensors, and other inspection devices.
• Develop or support GUI/console systems for monitoring, visualization, and centralized control of robot and drone operations.
• Conduct technical studies, simulations, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems.
• Evaluate test and study results to ensure that technologies meet company requirements, standards, and expected performance.
• Support technology scouting, screening, feasibility studies, and selection of suitable robotic, drone, automation, and inspection technologies.

Project Management

• Lead and coordinate robotics and technology development projects from concept development through implementation.
• Develop project plans, research methodologies, technical requirements, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external parties including technology suppliers, universities, research institutes, laboratories, associations, service contractors, and EPC/EPCI contractors.
• Monitor project progress and ensure deliverables are completed according to agreed scope, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
• Prepare and maintain project progress reports, risk assessments, action tracking, project S-curves, and other project-management documentation.
• Provide routine project updates on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis as required.
• Update project information in relevant company systems and databases.
• Ensure that the final technical direction and project outcomes align with the company's strategic objectives.

Vendor & Technical Coordination

• Act as the primary technical liaison between the company and external vendors, technology providers, and system implementors.
• Review and clarify vendor designs, specifications, technical proposals, system architecture, interfaces, and implementation plans.
• Coordinate technical discussions to ensure robotic and drone solutions meet conceptual and functional requirements.
• Conduct technology supplier, equipment vendor, service contractor, and implementation-partner scouting and screening.
• Obtain technical information, budgetary quotations, and reference pricing to support project planning and procurement.
• Capture technical knowledge, lessons learned, operating procedures, and know-how from vendors and implementation partners to enable future internal operation and replication.

Testing, Site Activities & Commissioning

• Participate in laboratory, workshop, factory, and field testing of robotic and drone systems.

• Support and/or conduct:

  • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  • Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
  • Pre-commissioning and commissioning
  • Start-up and performance testing
  • Site inspections and technical audits

• Support Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Permit-to-Work (PTW), and other SSHE requirements for on-site activities.

• Troubleshoot system issues during testing, commissioning, and field deployment.

• Prepare test procedures, test reports, technical findings, and recommendations.

Engineering Documentation & Procurement Support

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including conceptual designs, specifications, drawings, test procedures, test results, and engineering reports.

• Develop procurement-related technical documents such as:

  • Scope of Requirement (SOR)
  • Terms of Reference (TOR)
  • Technical Bid Evaluation criteria/templates
  • Commercial evaluation support documents

• Support vendor registration, procurement coordination, purchase/service processes, and invoice-related activities as required.

• Participate in technical clarification and bid evaluation activities.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, operations, maintenance, IT, digital, inspection, and SSHE functions.
• Represent the project team in technical meetings, management updates, exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, and on-site testing activities.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations and project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Attend relevant technical and company training programs as required.
• Perform other activities related to robotics, drone, automation, and technology development projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in robotics, drones, automation, or related technology development.
• Experience in robotic/drone design, system integration, testing, and implementation.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, MATLAB, ROS/ROS2, or similar programming tools.
• Familiarity with CAD software, sensors, actuators, control systems, and robotic hardware.
• Knowledge of AI/ML, computer vision, sensor fusion, or embedded systems is an advantage.
• Good problem-solving, project coordination, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Able to work with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
• Good English communication skills and MS Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of SSHE requirements and willingness to perform site work when required.
