Robotics Intern (Work Experience)

Location: UK (on-site with our robot fleet)
Schedule: 2 days/week (Tuesday/Thursday), 11:00am–5:00pm, on-site
Duration: 1-month placement (places available across October, November and December 2026 — please state your preferred month)
Pay: National Minimum Wage (age-banded; confirmed at offer stage)

About the role

We're building out our in-house robotics capability — a mix of collaborative robotic arms and a wheeled mobile manipulator platform (dual-arm, gripper-equipped) — and we're looking for a robotics intern to support the team as we bring these systems from "sitting in the lab" to working demos.

You'll work alongside our engineers on real hardware, getting hands-on exposure to how a robotics program actually gets built — not a simulated exercise, but genuine day-to-day involvement supporting live projects.

What you'll do

• Support the team with bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting on our robotic arms and mobile manipulator platform.
• Help build and refine demo showcases for internal stakeholders and events, learning what makes a robotics demo reliable and repeatable.
• Get hands-on with both robot-native programming (pendant-level) and basic external control code (Python), under guidance from the engineering team.
• Assist with testing and iterating on work in simulation (NVIDIA Isaac Sim or similar) alongside more senior team members.
• Shadow and contribute to day-to-day localization and integration work as the team adapts vendor platforms for UK use.
• Ask questions, take direction, and build toward increasing independence over the placement.

What we're looking for

• Some prior hands-on experience working with or building robotics — personal projects, coursework, competitions, hobbyist builds, or a previous placement all count.
• Basic familiarity with Python.
• Genuine curiosity about robotics and a willingness to learn quickly.
• Comfortable working as part of a team, taking direction, and asking questions.

Nice to have

• Any exposure to ROS/ROS 2, even at a tutorial level.
• Any exposure to simulation tools (Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or similar).
• A personal project, portfolio, or write-up of something robotics-related you've built.

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Expected hours: 12.0 per week
