Job#: 3051795 Job Description: Robotics Engineer – Advanced Robotics Location: Bentonville, AR (Innovation Lab) Travel: 10–30% Relocation: Supported About The Team Walmart’s Advanced Engineering & Robotics team builds next-generation robotic systems for supply chain and automation. Based in our Innovation Lab in Bentonville, the team designs, develops, integrates, and deploys robotics solutions from concept through production. About The Role We are seeking an experienced, highly technical Robotics Engineer capable of developing and integrating complete robotic systems. This is an end-to-end robotics role with a strong emphasis on ROS 2. The ideal candidate can work across the robotics stack—from sensors and perception through localization, motion planning, control, and hardware integration—and is comfortable taking a system from initial architecture through deployment on physical robots. What You’ll Do ROS 2 & Robotics Software
- Design and develop robotic systems using ROS 2
- Build ROS 2 nodes, packages, interfaces, launch systems, and configurations
- Develop production-quality robotics software in C++ and Python
- Architect and integrate distributed robotic systems
- Debug system-level issues involving timing, communication, performance, and hardware
Perception & Localization
- Develop and integrate perception systems using cameras, LiDAR, RGB-D, IMUs, and other sensors
- Implement perception, sensor fusion, localization, mapping, and state estimation
- Integrate perception and localization into planning and control systems
Motion Planning & Control
- Develop and integrate navigation, motion planning, trajectory generation, and obstacle avoidance
- Work with robot kinematics, controllers, actuators, and hardware interfaces
- Tune and validate robot motion and control on physical platforms
System Integration & Deployment
- Own and integrate the perception → localization → planning → control → actuation pipeline
- Bring up, test, debug, and deploy robotic systems in lab and production environments
- Develop simulation, testing, diagnostics, and deployment tools
- Transition robotics capabilities from prototype to reliable production systems
Collaboration
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and operations teams
- Partner with robotics vendors and technology providers
- Drive technical decisions and help define robotic system architecture
Top Must-Have Qualifications
- Deep hands-on experience with ROS 2
- Proven experience developing and deploying physical robotic systems
- Experience across multiple areas of the robotics stack: perception, localization, planning, and/or control
- Strong C++ and Python programming skills
- Experience integrating sensors, actuators, and robotic hardware
- Ability to independently debug complex robotics systems
- Strong understanding of real-time and distributed robotic software
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of professional robotics experience
- Strong proficiency in ROS 2 and C++
- Strong Python skills
- Experience with Linux-based robotic systems
- Experience deploying and debugging robotics software on physical robots
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with autonomous mobile robots, manipulators, or industrial robotics
- Experience with LiDAR, cameras, RGB-D, IMUs, and sensor fusion
- Experience with SLAM, navigation, motion planning, or robot control
- Experience with simulation, automated testing, Docker, and CI/CD
- Experience deploying robotics systems in warehouse, supply chain, manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Experience taking robotic systems from R&D through production
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate is an end-to-end robotics engineer who can understand and contribute across the complete robotic system: sensing → perception → localization → planning → control → actuation.
You should be comfortable writing ROS 2 software, integrating hardware, developing robotics algorithms, debugging complex system behavior, and deploying a complete robotic solution to a physical robot
