RODMAN/SURVEY AIDE

Roles and Responsibilities

The Rodman performs construction surveying activities under the supervision of the Instrument Man, Surveyor, Survey Engineer, or Survey Manager. The Rodman provides essential field support to ensure the efficient, safe, and accurate execution of surveying operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Transport, set up, and dismantle surveying instruments, equipment, and accessories required for daily field operations.
2. Handle and safeguard surveying equipment, ensuring all instruments and accessories are properly maintained, clean, and in good working condition.
3. Provide field assistance during survey operations by accurately positioning and holding the prism pole, GNSS/RTK rover, level staff, or other survey equipment at designated points to facilitate observations and measurements.
4. Perform surveying tasks in accordance with the survey plan, work instructions, and directions provided by the Instrument Man, Surveyor, Survey Engineer, or Survey Manager.
5. Read, understand, and accurately communicate survey measurements, markings, and instructions during field operations.
6. Demonstrate proficiency in the use and handling of basic surveying equipment, including prism poles, level staffs, measuring tapes, ranging rods, and related accessories.
7. Assist in preparing survey lines by clearing vegetation, brush, trees, or other obstructions as necessary to establish clear lines of sight for survey observations.
8. Perform fieldwork safely under varying weather conditions and on uneven, slippery, or challenging terrain while complying with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
9. Conduct routine housekeeping, inspection, and basic maintenance of surveying equipment and accessories, and promptly report any defects, damage, or equipment concerns to the immediate supervisor.
10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Survey Manager or other authorized supervisors in support of project requirements.

Qualifications

1. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Rodman, Survey Aide, or in an equivalent construction surveying role.
2. Willingness to learn and continuously develop surveying knowledge, skills, and field experience.
3. A team-oriented individual with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
4. Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy, productivity, and accountability.
5. Willing to work extended hours, rotating shifts, and under varying weather and site conditions as required by project operations.
6. Demonstrate effective communication skills and a commitment to complying with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and project requirements.

Essential Functions

1. Receive training and instruction on construction surveying methods, field procedures, equipment handling, and safe work practices.
2. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of surveying principles, safety procedures, and industry best practices while ensuring compliance with project HSE requirements.
3. Perform field duties in demanding construction environments, which may involve exposure to excessive noise, dust, mud, water, inclement weather, deep excavations, working at heights, and other site-related hazards.
4. Demonstrate the physical capability to carry surveying equipment, traverse uneven or sloping terrain, and safely perform outdoor fieldwork for extended periods.
