Roller Operator

We currently have multiple opportunities for experienced Roller Operators to join the civil construction team of our client on a major infrastructure project in Southwest Queensland. Positions are available across three crews.
 
The purpose of this role is to safely and efficiently operate rollers and associated compaction plant to achieve specified compaction across earthworks and pavement layers, supporting the delivery of quality civil works on programme.
 
Details:

• 15/6 roster - travel in day one, travel out day fifteen
• 12 hour days, 7 days per week, inclusive of public holidays
• Camp accommodation and all meals provided
• Transport provided from pick up points
• PPE supplied
• late October 2026 - ongoing

Key responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently operate smooth drum, padfoot and multi tyred rollers to achieve specified compaction on earthworks and pavement layers
• Compact fill, subgrade, gravel and cement modified pavement layers in accordance with the approved compaction method, layer thickness and roller pattern
• Monitor moisture content and surface condition, and communicate with the Leading Hand where watering, drying back or additional passes are required
• Work in close coordination with graders, water carts, dozers and trim crews to maintain continuity of the compaction process
• Support site quality and testing personnel during density, moisture and compaction testing, and rework areas where required
• Complete daily pre-start inspections on plant, report defects immediately and carry out routine operator maintenance and servicing
• Operate plant in accordance with safe operating procedures, exclusion zones, ground spotting requirements and traffic management plans
• Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and take 5s, and actively contribute to a positive safety culture
• Complete timesheets, plant logs, pre-start records and production sheets accurately and on time
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment at all times

Experience/Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience operating rollers within civil construction, roadworks, bulk earthworks or resources
• Working knowledge of compaction methods, roller patterns, layer thicknesses and moisture control
• Experience compacting gravel and cement modified or stabilised pavement layers highly regarded
• Experience working to Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) specifications highly regarded
• Required - Current C Class driver's licence
• Required - Current Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Required - RII ticket for Roller Operations, or the ability to obtain one prior to mobilisation

If you are successful for this position you will need to provide a current national police clearance and pass a full medical.
