About the Company

Summit School Services, a nationwide leader in student transportation services, includes Durham School Services in the United States and Stock Transportation in Canada. Summit supports approximately 15,000 student transportation routes throughout North America through a network of local operations and established routing programs.

About the Role

Summit School Services is seeking a Route Logistics Analyst to support North America and help improve the efficiency, service quality, and performance of our student transportation network. This role is responsible for analyzing routing and transportation data, evaluating current route performance, identifying inefficiencies, and developing practical solutions that improve service while maximizing the use of vehicles, drivers, time, and other operating resources. The Route Logistics Analyst will partner closely with local operations teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to evaluate routing scenarios, solve complex transportation challenges, support new business opportunities, and implement routing improvements. This role will also serve as a subject matter resource for routing technology, software troubleshooting, training, and large-scale routing projects. Success in this role requires someone who can move comfortably between data analysis, operational problem-solving, customer consultation, routing technology, and project execution. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced transportation environment, and able to translate complex routing data into clear, actionable recommendations that can be implemented in the field. This position reports to the Director of Route Logistics and may be based at Summit School Services’ corporate headquarters in Warrenville, Illinois, or remotely. Travel throughout North America is approximately 30-50%.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routing and logistics studies and analyses, including tier analysis, school bell time analysis, ridership analysis, and future service requirements.
  • Analyze current and historical route operations and customer service performance to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, service delivery, and resource utilization.
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate alternative routing scenarios and recommend solutions that improve service, operating efficiency, and revenue opportunities.
  • Identify recurring routing issues, trends, deficiencies, and root causes, and develop strategic solutions and action plans to improve routing processes, technology, and standards.
  • Develop routing strategies for existing contracts and create route scenarios to support new business development opportunities.
  • Consult with customers to understand transportation needs and expectations and develop and present recommended routing solutions.
  • Serve as a routing subject matter resource for Customer Service Centers within the assigned territory.
  • Lead, plan, and execute complex routing projects involving cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external customers with routing questions, issues, and troubleshooting.
  • Train internal and external customers on routing principles, processes, and routing software.
  • Manage new-router training for Versatrans and Traversa, as well as refresher training for existing users.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Traversa and other routing software support requests from the field.
  • Assist with the setup, integration, and troubleshooting of routing and dispatching software.
  • Attend internal and external customer meetings virtually or onsite to identify project requirements, provide consultation, and present project findings and recommendations.
  • Prioritize and resolve a high volume of routing support requests, particularly during school startup and peak summer periods.
  • Partner with Operations Improvement and other cross-functional teams to develop and implement routing standards, best practices, and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Skills

  • Three or more years of operational experience in ground transportation, routing, logistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience applying logistics principles, tools, and techniques to develop and implement efficient transportation solutions.
  • Experience using routing or transportation software such as Versatrans, Traversa, Transfinder, Trapeze MapNet, Edulog, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to analyze multiple routing scenarios and recommend solutions based on service, cost, capacity, operational, and customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of routing constraints, customer service expectations, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and contract requirements.
  • Project management knowledge or experience working within cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience training, coaching, or supporting users on software, routing principles, or operational processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex routing or logistics concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, particularly during school startup periods.
  • Ability to travel throughout North America approximately 30%-50%.

Preferred Skills
