As a key member of the RPAS Operations team, the RPAS Pilot will report to the Vice President, Operations and be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in support of commercial, government, and special mission operations. This role is responsible for mission planning, flight execution, data collection, regulatory compliance, operational reporting, and maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.

The RPAS Pilot will conduct aerial missions in accordance with company procedures, client requirements, Transport Canada regulations, and organizational safety management systems, while supporting operational excellence in dynamic and often remote environments.

Mission Planning and Preparation:

  • Conduct comprehensive site surveys and technical risk assessments to identify operational hazards, environmental risks, terrain obstacles, and electromagnetic interference.
  • Develop mission plans and secure applicable airspace authorizations, flight permits, and operational approvals.
  • Assess weather conditions and forecasts to determine safe mission viability.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections of aircraft, payload systems, batteries, and mission equipment.
  • Verify regulatory, operational, and logistical requirements prior to every launch.

Flight Operations and Mission Execution:

  • Monitor real-time aircraft performance, battery/fuel telemetry, power consumption metrics, and automated system health alerts.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness of surrounding airspace, weather conditions, terrain, and mission progress.
  • Communicate effectively using standardized aviation terminology with visual observers, sensor operators, ground crew, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and complete collection of mission data and imagery by dynamically managing sensor settings, camera exposure, and aircraft stability in real time.
  • Execute emergency checklists immediately and decisively in the event of system failures, airspace incursions, or lost-link scenarios in remote environments.

Post-Flight Administration and Reporting:

  • Review mission outputs to verify data quality and compliance with client requirements.
  • Process, secure, and manage collected data in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Maintain detailed flight records, aircraft utilization logs, pilot logbooks, and operational documentation.
  • Report maintenance discrepancies, hardware issues, and software anomalies to the appropriate technical personnel.
  • Participate in safety meetings, debriefs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete mandatory compliance documentation, submit operational irregularity reports (SRMS), and participate in safety and operational debriefs to foster organizational learning.

We’re looking for someone who’s not just qualified—but curious, driven, and ready to roll up their sleeves. Only candidates that meet the minimum requirements will be considered:

  • Strong understanding of aviation principles, regulations, airspace structure, meteorology, and aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply standard operating procedures, regulations, and company policies consistently and accurately.
  • Proven aircraft flight path management and mission execution skills.
  • Strong situational awareness and risk management capabilities.
