Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) is seeking an experienced Rural General Practitioner to support Norsup Hospital on Malekula Island, Vanuatu. Working alongside local doctors, nurses and healthcare teams, you'll provide clinical support, mentor emerging health professionals, and help strengthen healthcare services for rural communities.
This six-month assignment offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while immersing yourself in the culture, community, and lifestyle of Vanuatu.

VSA will organise and fund your flights, accommodation, visa, insurance, utilities, and a living allowance throughout your assignment.
Ngā Pūkenga me te Wheako | Skills and Experience We're looking for someone with:

• A recognised medical qualification and current registration as a General Practitioner.
• Broad experience in primary and acute healthcare.
• Strong clinical judgement and the ability to work in resource-limited environments.
• Experience teaching, mentoring, or supervising healthcare professionals.
• A collaborative approach and a passion for sharing knowledge.
• Willingness to apply for medical registration in Vanuatu.
• A current Certificate of Good Standing from the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).

Norsup Hospital is the main hospital for Malampa Province, providing healthcare services to communities across Malekula and surrounding islands.
The hospital serves a largely rural population and plays a critical role in delivering acute care, outpatient services, and outreach support to remote communities. Working alongside local healthcare professionals, you will help strengthen patient care while supporting the development and confidence of junior clinicians.

Āu Mahi | What You'll Do As a volunteer, you will:

• Provide clinical care across hospital and outpatient settings.
• Support rural and remote healthcare delivery.
• Mentor junior doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners.
• Share knowledge and strengthen local clinical capability.
• Contribute to improved health outcomes for communities across Malampa Province.
