An exciting opportunity exists for a Rural General Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner to join the team at Moree District Hospital!

About the role

This is an opportunity for an experienced nurse to make a tangible difference in a rural community while working within a supportive Nurse Practitioner framework. Structured support is available for clinicians transitioning to the Nurse Practitioner role, as well as ongoing professional support once qualified.

Working closely with the Emergency Department, inpatient services and community teams, the Nurse Practitioner will provide advanced clinical assessment and management with a particular focus on reducing Emergency Department wait times and avoidable representations.

About Moree District Hospital

Moree is a vibrant rural community in the north-west of NSW, with Moree District Hospital providing a range of acute and community health services to the local population and surrounding communities.

Working in rural health offers the opportunity to develop broad clinical expertise, build strong relationships with patients and colleagues, and contribute directly to innovative models of care.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management within an approved scope of practice.
  • Support patient flow and hospital avoidance through timely assessment and management of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with Emergency Department and community teams to improve patient pathways and reduce avoidable Emergency Department presentations and representations.
  • Provide advanced chronic disease assessment and management, supporting continuity of care between hospital, primary care and community services.
  • Provide clinical leadership and expert nursing advice across the service.
  • Support evidence-based practice, research and quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to education, mentoring, coaching and professional development of nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Practise as a senior clinician who can respond flexibly and effectively to the changing needs of a rural health service.

About you

We are looking for someone who combines strong clinical capability with the personal qualities that make rural healthcare work. You will be self-directed and able to prioritise and problem-solve independently, while also being a collaborative team member who builds trust with colleagues, patients and local stakeholders.

Essential requirements

  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and current endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner or, if transitional, evidence of substantial progress towards endorsement. If not endorsed, the Transitional Nurse Practitioner will be appointed temporarily (up to 3 years) to work towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Emergency Nursing or evidence of working towards attainment with at least 3 years full time post registration emergency experience.

Why work with us?

You will be supported by a structured Nurse Practitioner framework, including support for clinicians transitioning to Nurse Practitioner endorsement and ongoing professional development.

You will benefit from

  • Sustainable Healthcare: Together towards zero
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro-rata for part time employees)
  • Paid parental leave (for eligible employees) - giving you the opportunity for true Worklife balance
  • Salary packaging options - up to $11,600 plus novated leasing
  • Fitness Passport for health and well-being - discounted gym options for you and your family
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for staff and family members
  • The Welcome Experience helps you and your family connect with local people and resources, making it easier to settle in and feel at home in your new community.  Learn more at www.nsw.gov.au/welcomeexperience
