What they need

Our vision is New Futures for Young People. We support young people and their children who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, to secure and maintain housing, address physical and mental health challenges, establish successful relationships and support networks, and access pathways to education and employment. Find out more at Brisbane Youth Service.

Are you seeking a role with a values-driven for purpose organisation where you can support young people in our community? Are you passionate about supporting young people to maintain healthy relationships? Use your expertise to make an impact on the lives of the young people we support.

This position will support the delivery of the Safe Relationships program that is aimed at reducing violence amongst young people through [1] Healthy relationships and Social Groups for young identifying women, genderfluid persons, or nonbinary folk with experiences of unhealthy relationships, toxicity, and family violence and [2] Delivery of the K.I.N.D program; a young person’s psycho-educational behaviour change program directed at young people using violence in intimate partner and/or family of origin relationships.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you:

  • Possess a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Sciences or equivalent experience in Criminology, with a strong foundation in theory and practice with youth.
  • Are skilled in building rapport with at-risk youth and providing holistic, client-centered support tailored to complex and diverse individual needs.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of trauma, development, substance use, mental health, and cultural and gender norms affecting young people's wellbeing.
  • Possess knowledge of domestic and family violence dynamics, with experience in risk assessment, safety planning, and supporting both victims and perpetrators.
  • Have strong facilitation and communication skills, able to lead individual and group sessions, advocate effectively, and manage competing priorities independently.

Due to the nature of this role and the communities it serves, applicants who identify as LGBTQIA+SB and have relevant lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This lived experience is considered integral to providing authentic, culturally safe and affirming support.

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • A Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • A National Coordinated Criminal History Check [Police Check].
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough].

Our people enjoy benefits including salary packaging, flexible working arrangements, and additional annual leave per year (depending on your role).

We value the unique backgrounds, experiences and contributions that each person brings to our community and encourage and celebrate diversity. So, even if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed or tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!

If this sounds interesting, submit your cover letter telling us why you are the right person for this role, along with your resume.
