What they need
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys being out in the business, working alongside operational teams and making a genuine impact.
Our client is a well-established national organisation with operations across New Zealand. They are looking for an experienced Safety & Risk Manager to take ownership of Health, Safety & Environmental performance across their NZ business.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage safety purely from behind a desk. We're looking for someone practical, visible and approachable - someone who enjoys getting out across the sites, building relationships with operational teams and creating a strong safety culture throughout the business.
The role
Reporting into a senior APAC HSE leader and working closely with the New Zealand leadership team, you'll have responsibility for HSE nationwide, with regular domestic travel and occasional travel to Australia.
You'll be responsible for driving best-practice safety standards across the organisation while ensuring compliance with New Zealand Health, Safety & Environmental legislation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and continuously improving HSE systems, policies and processes across the NZ business
- Building strong relationships with operational teams, technicians, managers and senior leadership
- Driving a practical, positive and highly engaged safety culture
- Conducting and overseeing site audits, inspections and corrective actions
- Managing incident reporting, investigations and preventative actions
- Delivering H&S training, toolbox initiatives and employee safety programmes
- Managing emergency preparedness and evacuation processes
- Supporting contractor safety and pre-qualification requirements
- Providing monthly HSE reporting to both NZ and APAC senior leadership
- Supporting customer tenders and pre-qualification processes from an HSE perspective
- Identifying areas of environmental and statutory compliance exposure and implementing corrective actions.
About you
We're looking for someone who can operate equally well on the floor with operational teams and around the senior leadership table.
- Significant experience in a senior Health & Safety / HSE role
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand HSE legislation and standards
- A recognised HSE qualification
- Experience auditing and improving safety management systems
- Strong influencing and relationship-building skills
- The confidence to challenge, educate and bring people on the safety journey
- Experience within an industrial, technical, transport, logistics or similarly operational environment
- Strong reporting, communication and presentation skills
- A full NZ driver licence and the flexibility to travel nationally. Safety and Risk Manager NZ Augu...
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is hands-on, pragmatic and comfortable working closely with people at every level of the organisation.
The opportunity
This is a genuinely influential national role within an established business where Health & Safety is viewed as an important part of how the organisation operates.
If you're an experienced Health & Safety leader looking for a national role where you can make a visible difference, we'd love to hear from you.
Other offers great for you!
