You will build relationships with workers and supervisors, provide coaching, and follow through on concerns and corrective actions to support safe, productive work.

Key Elements of the Role

  • Conduct site inspections, observations, and audits to verify compliance with company, client, and regulatory HSE requirements.
  • Maintain a visible field presence, coach workers and supervisors, address safety concerns, and lead or participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Review Field Level Hazard Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, Job Hazard Analyses, permits, and other safety documents for completeness and quality.
  • Support incident, injury, and near-miss investigations, including root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Assist with Workers' Compensation Board claims, workplace injury processes, and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Coordinate and track mandatory safety training, and support onboarding and site orientations for employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, training records, incident documentation, audit findings, and regulatory records in approved HSE systems.
  • Partner with the HSE team, Regional Manager, and construction leadership to assess project risks, resolve concerns, and improve safety programs and field practices.

What You'll Bring

  • A post-secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and field experience.
  • At least three years of safety experience in electrical transmission, utilities, civil construction, or engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) environments.
  • Working knowledge of BC Hydro HSE standards and owner-specific safety requirements is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to build credibility and effective working relationships across field and office teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and support practical safety solutions in changing field conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital HSE management, reporting, and learning management systems.
  • Current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS 2015, and Working at Heights certifications, or the ability to obtain them.
  • A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
