This is an exciting opportunity to shape safety at one of the largest automated distribution centres in NSW. It has initially been approved as a Fixed Term Contract until June 2028 (20 months from the date of posting) with the potential to transition to a permanent position as the site becomes operational.
The Role: You’ll establish the safety framework and culture for a highly automated operation. With around 500 people on site and planned throughput of up to one million cartons per day, this is a complex, fast-paced environment where safety leadership will make a real difference. You’ll lead safety strategy and implementation as the site prepares for operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing safety systems, governance and processes from the ground up.
- Managing risks across automated and manual warehouse operations, including AGVs, AMRs and material handling equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with NSW WHS legislation and relevant Australian Standards.
- Coaching operational leaders and building a culture of safety ownership.
- Overseeing incident investigations, risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Driving continuous improvement through audits, reporting and safety performance data.
About you: You’re a hands-on safety leader who can engage with teams on the floor, influence senior stakeholders and make decisions in a high-pressure operational environment.
You’ll bring:
- 8+ years’ experience in safety across logistics, warehousing, supply chain, FMCG or similar environments.
- Strong knowledge of NSW WHS legislation and machinery safety.
- Experience across automated and manual warehouse operations.
- Proven stakeholder management, coaching and influencing skills.
- Strong risk management, incident investigation and continuous improvement capability.
- A Diploma or higher qualification in Work Health and Safety.
- Greenfield experience or involvement in a major automation project will be highly regarded.
What's in it for you?
- Play a key role in launching a major automated facility, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to be at the forefront of such a large site.
- Work with advanced automation and material handling technology.
- Establish the safety culture and systems from day one.
- Partner with site leadership and a national safety function.
