About the Role
We're a Chicago-area heavy-haul carrier running a fleet of around 50 trucks. We move oversized and overweight loads nationwide on flatbed, step-deck, and RGN equipment. We're looking for a Safety Manager to take full ownership of safety and DOT compliance across our two operating authorities.

You'll report directly to the Owner, make real decisions, and shape how our safety department grows. This role isn't a "file clerk" position.

What You'll Own

• Driver compliance: keep every DQ file complete and audit-ready. Track CDL and medical card expirations and make sure renewals happen on time.
• Hours of Service: monitor ELD and HOS data in Samsara, spot violations early, and coach drivers to correct them.
• Inspections and CSA: review roadside inspections, manage DVERs, file and follow up on DataQ challenges, and keep our CSA/SMS scores moving in the right direction.
• Accident management: lead accident investigations, identify root causes, and document corrective actions.
• Systems and records: maintain driver records across PrePass, BestPass, the ELD platform, and related tools.
• Reporting: send daily compliance updates and a weekly safety scorecard covering inspections, accidents, DataQs, and upcoming deadlines.
• Process building: create and refine safety SOPs, checklists, and internal procedures.

What You Bring

• 3+ years of hands-on safety or compliance work at a U.S. interstate trucking company
• Solid command of FMCSA regulations, DQ file requirements, and the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
• Working knowledge of CSA/SMS, DataQs, roadside inspections, and post-accident procedures
• Experience with UCR, IRP, Form 2290, MCS-150, and state-level filings
• Admin-level experience with Samsara or a comparable ELD/telematics system
• Experience using a TMS
• Clear, professional English, both written and spoken. You'll deal with drivers, DOT officials, insurers, and brokers.

Nice to Have

• Open-deck or heavy-haul background
• Experience handling compliance for more than one MC/DOT number
• Tenstreet, HireRight, or DataTruck
• Russian or Ukrainian

Pay: $80,249.78 - $130,644.90 per year
