About Creek Enterprise, Inc.

At Creek Enterprise, Inc., the health, safety, and well-being of our team members are our highest priorities. As a premier utility infrastructure, telecommunications, directional drilling, and underground/overhead construction services provider, our reputation is built on the dedication of safety-conscious crews and leadership that puts people first.

Operating across multiple operational centers nationwide—including Michigan, Missouri, Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, Alabama, and Idaho—we maintain a culture of proactive accident prevention, continuous safety education, and rigorous regulatory compliance.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and field-oriented Safety Manager / Director to lead, elevate, and execute our enterprise-wide safety program. Based out of our corporate headquarters in Adrian, MI, this individual will serve as the champion of our safety culture.

You will oversee regulatory compliance, track and report OSHA metrics, manage multi-line insurance claims (Workers' Compensation, Auto/Fleet, General Liability), conduct thorough incident investigations, and lead hands-on site inspections and training sessions across our field locations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance & OSHA Tracking

  • OSHA Recordkeeping: Maintain complete accuracy of OSHA 300, 301, and 300A logs across all company entities. Ensure timely annual electronic submissions to OSHA’s Injury Tracking Application (ITA).
  • Postings & Standards: Verify that all required federal, state-specific, and local safety posters and regulatory notices are up to date across all offices, yards, and temporary job sites.
  • Regulatory Updates: Continuously monitor federal (OSHA 1926/1910, DOT, PHMSA) and state-level safety regulations to ensure company policies remain fully compliant and updated.

2. Field Site Inspections & Training Delivery

  • Job Site Audits: Travel regularly to job sites and regional facility yards to conduct thorough safety inspections, audit trenching/excavation, aerial lift, traffic control setup, and equipment operation.
  • Safety Training & Onboarding: Develop and conduct hands-on training programs including New Employee Orientations, Site Inductions, Competent Person modules, and Short Service Employee (SSE) mentorship oversight.
  • Toolbox Talks: Provide supervisors and foremen with relevant, actionable Safety Toolbox Talks to foster daily site awareness.

3. Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis

  • Comprehensive Investigations: Lead the prompt investigation of all field incidents, including employee injuries/illnesses, utility strikes/hits, vehicle/equipment collisions, property damage, and high-potential near-misses.
  • First Report of Incident (FROI): Manage the execution of official FROI documentation, chronological sequence of events tracking, and post-incident drug/alcohol testing protocols.
  • Corrective Actions: Perform change and root-cause analyses to establish corrective action plans that prevent recurrence.

4. Claims Management & Risk Mitigation

  • Insurance Claims Oversight: Act as the primary technical point of contact for Workers' Compensation, Auto/Vehicle Liability, and General Liability (GL) claims.
  • Subcontractor Safety & Tender: Partner with regional managers to review subcontractor safety plans, verify Certificates of Insurance (COI), and coordinate indemnification/tender processes when third-party damages occur.
  • OSHA Inspection Leadership: Serve as the primary contact during any state or federal OSHA site visits, managing report forms and follow-up communications.

Qualifications & Skill Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Management, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated EHS leadership experience in heavy civil construction, utility infrastructure, directional drilling, or telecommunications sectors.
  • Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Health Manager (CSHM), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or OSHA Authorized 10/30-Hour Construction Trainer strongly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of OSHA 1926 (Construction) and 1910 (General Industry) standards, DOT regulations, MUTCD work zone traffic control, and One-Call utility locate protocols.
  • Claims Handling: Direct experience managing Workers' Comp, Commercial Fleet, and General Liability claims alongside insurance carriers and legal representatives.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel 30%–50% to field job sites and regional hubs (company vehicle or travel allowance provided).
  • Licensing: Valid Driver's License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

What We Offer

  • Competitive Compensation: Salary commensurate with executive-level safety leadership experience.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Premium medical, dental, and vision health coverage plans.
  • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with an annual company match contribution.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous PTO package that includes paid company holidays.
  • Disability and Life: Company paid short term, long term disability and life policy.
  • Vehicle Support: Company vehicle or competitive vehicle allowance for business travel.
  • Professional Growth: Direct leadership support for continuing education, industry certifications, and conference attendance.
