Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

We are looking for a strict, highly vigilant, and certified Safety Officer to lead health and safety management across our construction sites.

This is a critical field-based role. You will enforce a zero-accident workspace by setting high safety standards, checking everyday hazards, and making sure all workers use protective gear.

The ideal candidate will have strong authority on site, an eye for risks, and complete knowledge of construction safety laws in Maharashtra

Preferred candidate profile

1. On-Site Safety Enforcement & Monitoring

• PPE Compliance: Enforce 100% mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including helmets, safety shoes, high-visibility vests, and full-body harnesses.
• Daily Site Inspections: Walk the construction site daily to identify and fix unsafe conditions regarding scaffolding, edge protection, netting, and deep excavations.
• Height Work Safety: Supervise all high-altitude activities; check and approve height-work permits, lifelines, safety nets, and staging structures before workers climb.
• Electrical & Machinery Safety: Inspect site electrical distribution boards (DBs), wiring, heavy machinery, tower cranes, and passenger lifts to prevent accidents.

2. Training, Drills & Safety Culture

• Toolbox Talks: Conduct mandatory daily morning "Toolbox Talks" with site laborers and sub-contractor teams to discuss specific daily hazards.
• Induction Training: Deliver safety induction training for all newly hired laborers, engineers, and visitors before they enter active project zones.
• Emergency Drills: Plan and execute regular fire safety drills, mock evacuation exercises, and basic first-aid training programs on site.

3. Documentation, Audits & Legal Compliance

• Safety Registers: Maintain up-to-date site safety logs, hot-work permits, accident/near-miss registers, and equipment fitness certificates.
• Incident Reporting: Investigate any near-misses, minor injuries, or property

damage immediately; prepare detailed root-cause reports for the Director's review.

• Statutory Compliance: Ensure the construction site complies fully with the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act and local government safety rules.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Zero Fatalities & Major Accidents: Maintaining a clean, incident-free record across all assigned project timelines.
• 100% PPE Enforcement: Ensuring absolute compliance with protective wear by everyone on site, including sub-contractor labor.
• Audit Scores: Passing internal and external safety checks with zero critical compliance flags.
• Proactive Hazard Fixes: Identifying and correcting high-risk structural or electrical issues before they cause harm.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Basic Degree: Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Civil / Mechanical Engineering or a B.Sc. in Science.
• Mandatory Certification: A Govt-recognized Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) or a certified safety qualification (like NEBOSH, IOSH, or NICMAR safety certification).
• Experience: 3 to 6 years of active safety management experience specifically on high-rise residential or commercial building construction sites.
• Local Language: Fluid communication skills in Marathi and Hindi are mandatory to train site labor effectively.

Technical Skills

• Safety Standards: Thorough knowledge of Indian Standards (IS codes) for construction safety, scaffolding regulations, and firefighting systems.
• First Aid: Certified knowledge of basic first-aid procedures and emergency medical response.
• Digital Tools: Basic ability to use MS Excel/Word to type weekly incident trackers and email safety reports to the corporate office.
