What they need

Sailing Director / Program Manager Squamish Yacht Club | Squamish, BC |

Approximately 0.5 FTE Squamish Yacht Club is looking for a Sailing Director / Program Manager to help rebuild and grow our community sailing programs for 2027 and beyond. SYC has a long history of introducing people to sailing in Howe Sound through youth Learn to Sail, adult instruction, racing and member sailing. With spectacular summer winds, an incredible on-water environment and growing opportunities for sailing in Squamish, we believe there is tremendous potential to build something special here. We're looking for someone who can provide the continuity and leadership to help take the program into its next stage. The Role Your immediate priority will be the 2027 Learn to Sail program: working with our Sailing Committee and Lead Instructor to build the systems, people, equipment and planning required to deliver a safe, engaging and sustainable program. Responsibilities include:

  • 2027 program planning, scheduling and registration;
  • instructor recruitment, onboarding and development;
  • safety systems, records and program administration;
  • fleet and equipment readiness;
  • budgets, grants and funding opportunities;
  • parent and participant communications; and
  • post-season review and multi-year program planning.

Over time, the role may also support adult instruction, Club Racing, SOAR, volunteers, events and other opportunities to grow sailing at SYC. We're Looking for Someone Who

  • Is organized and comfortable taking ownership of a program.
  • Communicates well with instructors, parents, volunteers and Club leadership.
  • Can build practical systems and keep good records.
  • Understands safety and risk management.
  • Enjoys developing people and building community.
  • Has experience in sailing, recreation, youth programming, sport or outdoor education. Sailing and CANSail experience are valuable, but we're equally interested in finding someone with the organizational ability, initiative and enthusiasm to help grow the program. The Opportunity We see 2027 as the beginning of a multi-year period of growth for sailing at SYC. We want to build a strong team around the program and are prepared to invest in the training, certification and professional development of the right people as they grow with us. This is a flexible, approximately 0.5 FTE position, with greater involvement leading into and during the summer season. Some planning and administrative work may be completed remotely. For the right candidate, we will work with you to help identify suitable summer accommodation options in Squamish. Start: Flexible / Fall-Winter 2026–27 Compensation: To be determined based on experience and employment structure.
  • To apply, please send a resume and short introduction outlining your experience and why you're interested in helping grow sailing in Squamish to: [email protected]

Pay: $30,000.00-$45,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Flexible schedule
