What they need
About Momentous:
Momentous Mold & Machine provides high-precision tooling and assemblies for mission-critical aerospace & defense programs. We support the production of space-launch booster engines, helicopter rotor blades & fighter-jet vertical-takeoff inlet systems — high-consequence applications where failure is not an option .
- The company operates with ~65 employees and ~35 major CNC machining centers in a 60k sq-ft facility located in Cuyahoga Falls, Oh.
- Our core business is aerospace tooling : composite layup tooling , RTM molds , rubber autoclave molds , fixturing , mandrels , and precision machined assemblies .
- Founded more than 70 years ago , Momentous carries forward a legacy of craftsmanship and trust built from three generations of the Reuther family.
- In 2025, a team of Northeast Ohio owner-operators acquired the company and began transforming it into a modern, digitally enabled manufacturing platform—combining precision toolmaking with disciplined commercial execution.
Momentous operates alongside sister company Additive Engineering Solutions (AES) , a global leader in large-format polymer additive manufacturing for aerospace & defense tooling . Together, Momentous and AES offer a differentiated, end-to-end value proposition —from additive tooling through aluminum, steel, and Invar—serving shared customers with significant untapped commercial potential.
About the role:
The Commercial Director will build and scale Momentous’ commercial engine —driving new business, expanding key accounts, and instilling disciplined sales execution.
Success is building a $5–10M+ book of business across programs ranging from $50k to $1M+ in size . The focus is balanced: developing new customer relationships while deepening existing accounts in aerospace & defense and adjacent industrial markets.
This is a builder role . The right candidate will create pipeline, win complex deals, and improve how Momentous sells—bringing structure to quoting, pricing, and pipeline management in partnership with engineering and estimating.
The role will work directly with tech-forward owner-operators modernizing a 75-year-old precision manufacturing leader , helping shape the next generation of American tooling capability . This role has the opportunity to partner with Additive Engineering Solutions to present end-to-end tooling solutions for shared customers.
Responsibilities:
- Build Pipeline – Develop and execute a targeted account strategy across aerospace, defense, and industrial markets; Generate new opportunities through outbound engagement with engineering, supply chain, and program stakeholders
- Win Work – Own opportunities end-to-end: RFQ → quote → negotiation → purchase order; Position Momentous on speed, technical capability, and reliability in high-consequence applications
- Grow Key Accounts – Expand share-of-wallet with existing customers (multi-program and multi-site penetration); Identify and pursue follow-on and adjacent opportunities
- Drive Commercial Discipline – Establish and maintain CRM rigor and pipeline visibility; Partner with estimating to improve quote turnaround & win rates
- Own Pricing (with guardrails) – Make pricing and deal-structure decisions within defined margin expectations; Escalate and lead strategy on larger, complex opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5–12+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing sales
- Track record of winning $50k–$1M+ engineered product deals
- Experience selling into aerospace, defense, or industrial OEM supply chains (tooling, machining, or engineered components preferred)
- Proven ability to generate pipeline (not just manage inbound RFQs)
- Experience owning deals end-to-end , including pricing and negotiation
- Willingness to travel 25–40% (customers + periodic onsite to HQ in Ohio)
- Preferred home base in North East Ohio, or near major aerospace, space & defense hubs (e.g., Southern California; Phoenix/Tucson; Dallas–Fort Worth; Wichita; Seattle; Huntsville, AL; Denver)
Skills:
- Commercial Judgment : Ability to balance growth and profitability
- Technical Fluency : Comfortable discussing machining and manufacturing processes with engineers and buyers
- Structured Operator : Brings discipline to pipeline management and forecasting
- Builder Mindset : Proactive and self-directed; Able to drive alignment across estimating, engineering, and operations
- Executive Communication : Clear, concise communicator with customers and internal stakeholders
- Industry Familiarity (Preferred) : Experience in aerospace & defense tooling, machining, or adjacent engineered manufacturing environments
