What they need
Position Summary
The Sales Associate II carries out all Sales Associate I responsibilities and takes on the store's trust-based duties: opening and closing the store, handling money independently, and buying and trading in product from customers. This is the experienced-associate tier — it's the role that can run a shift on its own when a manager isn't on the floor.
Key Responsibilities
All Sales Associate I duties, plus:
Opening, Closing & Cash Responsibility
- Open and close the store independently, including unlocking/locking and setting up or shutting down the register area.
- Count the cash drawer at open and close, prepare deposits, and complete end-of-day POS reconciliation in Shopify.
- Investigate and report any cash or drawer discrepancies to the Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager.
- Serve as a keyholder, including alarm codes and store keys, per store policy.
Buying & Trading In From Customers
- Evaluate customer sell/trade-in items — primarily TCG singles, but also sealed product, miniatures, and board games — for condition and authenticity.
- Price buy/trade-in offers using current market data, staying within the store's target 50–60%-of-market range.
- Complete the buy/trade-in transaction in Shopify, including cash or store-credit payout to the customer.
- Flag unusual, high-value, or suspicious buy requests to a manager before completing the transaction.
Shift Leadership Support
- Act as the senior associate on shift when no Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager is present.
- Help train and mentor Sales Associate I team members on POS use, product knowledge, and store procedures.
- Support cycle counts and help investigate shrink or inventory discrepancies.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ months of experience as a Sales Associate I at The Game Station, or equivalent retail cash-handling and keyholder experience.
- Demonstrated trustworthiness and accuracy with cash handling.
- Comfortable making pricing judgment calls on customer buys/trade-ins within store guidelines.
- Reliable and able to work independently without direct supervision on shift.
- Able to lift and move product (up to 30 lbs.) and stand/walk for extended periods.
Preferred
- Strong knowledge of TCG singles pricing and condition/grading standards (NM, LP, MP, etc.).
- Prior experience as a retail keyholder or shift lead.
Growth Path
Sales Associate II team members who show strong ownership of shift operations, vendor and pricing judgment, and staff mentorship are the primary candidates for promotion into the Assistant Store Manager role.
