About the Role

We are looking for a commercially driven Head of Sales & Business Development who knows how to create opportunities rather than simply wait for them to appear.

This is a strategic, hands-on role for someone with a strong understanding of the hospitality, catering and events market and a proven ability to identify where the next opportunity is going to come from.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building a high-quality pipeline of new business, identifying contracts approaching renewal, developing relationships with prospective clients before tenders are released, and converting those relationships into successful bids and long-term contracts.

You will also take a fresh look at our existing and previous client base identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts, understanding why previous relationships ended, and developing strategies to win those clients back.

The focus is not simply on responding to tenders. It is about knowing what is coming, getting in front of the right people early, creating a compelling proposition and positioning the business to win.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a proactive business development strategy focused on generating new revenue and long-term commercial growth.
  • Identify new markets, organisations, venues and potential clients that represent strong commercial opportunities.
  • Monitor the market to identify contracts approaching renewal, upcoming procurement exercises and potential tender opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of warm leads, establishing relationships with key decision-makers well before contracts formally go to tender.
  • Research existing contracts and competitors to understand when opportunities are likely to come to market and develop a strategy for positioning the business ahead of the competition.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with prospective clients and key decision-makers across the hospitality, catering and events sectors.
  • Identify opportunities where we can engage with clients early and influence the relationship before a formal tender process begins.
  • Lead new business opportunities from initial identification and relationship-building through to tender, proposal, negotiation, presentation and contract award.
  • Take responsibility for developing compelling and commercially strong tender submissions and proposals in collaboration with the wider team.
  • Review the existing client portfolio to identify opportunities for account growth, additional services and increased revenue.
  • Review previous clients and contracts to understand why relationships ended, what has changed and whether there is an opportunity to win the business back.
  • Develop targeted re-engagement strategies for previous clients and maintain relationships so that we are well positioned when future opportunities arise.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of contacts across the hospitality, catering, events and wider commercial sectors.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations, proposals and pitches tailored to individual clients and opportunities.
  • Work closely with senior management and operational teams to develop commercially attractive propositions that can be delivered successfully.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market conditions and industry developments to identify emerging opportunities and ensure the business remains commercially competitive.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date CRM and pipeline, including prospect information, contract renewal dates, relationship status, tender opportunities and projected revenue.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on pipeline development, key opportunities, tender activity and anticipated future business.
  • Attend relevant industry events, networking opportunities and client meetings to develop relationships and generate new opportunities.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in business development, sales or a senior commercial role, ideally within hospitality, contract catering, events, facilities management or a related sector.
  • A demonstrable track record of winning new business, securing contracts and generating significant revenue growth.
  • Strong experience of identifying and developing opportunities before they formally enter a tender process.
  • Experience managing tenders and bids from initial opportunity through to submission, presentation, negotiation and contract award.
  • Strong understanding of the complete business development cycle, including prospecting, relationship development, pipeline management, tendering and contract negotiation.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • A natural networker who is confident approaching senior decision-makers and developing relationships from the ground up.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to recognise an opportunity, assess its potential and develop a clear strategy to win it.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to identify contract renewal dates, upcoming opportunities and potential warm leads.
  • Highly proactive and self-motivated, with the drive to create opportunities rather than rely solely on inbound enquiries or published tenders.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities, relationships and tender deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work closely with senior management and operational teams to develop commercially viable and compelling proposals.
  • Experience of re-engaging previous clients and developing strategies to win back lost business would be highly desirable.
  • Understanding of sustainability, ethical sourcing and corporate social responsibility within tenders and commercial proposals is desirable.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with performance-related bonus opportunities linked to successful business development and new business wins.
  • The opportunity to play a key role in shaping the company's future commercial growth.
  • A high level of autonomy and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the business.
  • Career development and progression within a growing organisation.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunities to attend industry events, networking opportunities and develop relationships with key contacts across the hospitality, catering and events sectors.

Seasoned Events ltd are equal opportunities employers, we value diversity and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities. We believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
