EXPERIENCED SALON MANAGER

Stewart Kyle & Co Hair & Beauty – Livingston

Salary: £27,000 per annum + Performance Bonus

OTE up to £33,000 per annum

Full Time | 40 Hours | 5 Days from 7

Stewart Kyle & Co Hair & Beauty is looking for an experienced, confident and commercially driven Salon Manager to take ownership of our busy Livingston salon.

This is a genuine management position.

We are not looking for someone who simply wants a senior position within a salon.

We need a strong leader who can walk through the door, take ownership, manage a team effectively and hit the ground running.

You must be comfortable setting expectations, having difficult conversations when necessary and holding people accountable — while still creating a positive, supportive and enjoyable environment in which people want to work.

THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You will be:

  • A confident and experienced people manager Assertive, fair and consistent Comfortable managing different personalities Able to delegate rather than trying to do everything yourself Confident addressing poor performance or standards Highly organised Commercially aware Target driven Client focused Professional and well presented Calm under pressure An excellent communicator Comfortable making decisions Someone who follows through on what they say Able to motivate, coach and develop a team Comfortable working with figures, KPIs and targets Someone who leads by example

Most importantly, we need someone who can MANAGE.

You can be friendly, approachable and supportive while still maintaining clear professional boundaries and ensuring the standards of the business are followed.

THE ROLE

As Salon Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and commercial performance of the salon.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the salon team Maintaining a highly visible presence on the salon floor Creating and managing rotas Managing holidays, sickness, attendance and timekeeping Managing employee performance Conducting one-to-ones and staff reviews Coaching and developing team members Identifying training requirements Supporting recruitment and induction Delegating responsibilities effectively Maintaining exceptional cleanliness and presentation standards Managing the client journey Greeting and engaging with clients Managing reception and diary standards Maximising appointment utilisation Monitoring cancellations and no-shows Increasing client rebooking and retention Encouraging appropriate upselling and cross-selling Driving genuine retail recommendations and sales Monitoring daily, weekly and monthly revenue Working towards clearly defined commercial targets Managing staffing hours against business demand Monitoring stock and ordering requirements Handling client concerns and complaints professionally Supporting marketing and social-media activity Completing accurate weekly management reports Ensuring company policies and procedures are followed Maintaining health, safety and compliance standards Identifying problems and taking action rather than waiting for someone else to resolve them

THIS IS A HANDS-ON MANAGEMENT ROLE

Your primary responsibility will be managing the salon and the team.

However, we are looking for someone with strong hairdressing industry knowledge who is comfortable being involved operationally and supporting clients and the team when required.

You will not ordinarily be expected to maintain the same full client column as a full-time stylist — we want you to have sufficient time to actually manage the business.

You will, however, need to be comfortable stepping in where reasonably required and maintaining a visible, active presence within the salon.

COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT

This is an important part of the position.

We operate with detailed financial and KPI reporting, giving the Salon Manager clear visibility of how the business is performing.

You will be expected to understand and actively manage areas including:

  • Daily and weekly sales Revenue targets Appointment utilisation Staff productivity Staffing hours Rebooking Client retention Cancellations and no-shows Retail sales Average client spend Stock Client reviews Commercial performance

We don’t expect our manager simply to report that a target has been missed.

We want someone who asks:

Why did we miss it?

What can we change?

What action are we taking?

LEADERSHIP STYLE

We don’t want a dictator.

Equally, we don’t want someone who is uncomfortable managing people.

We are looking for a manager who can strike the right balance:

Approachable but authoritative.

Supportive but accountable.

Friendly but professional.

Positive but commercially focused.

Fair but firm when necessary.

You should be capable of building excellent relationships with your team while remaining confident enough to challenge poor performance, inappropriate behaviour or falling standards.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • £27,000 basic salary Performance-related bonus of up to £1,200 per quarter Maximum annual performance bonus of £6,500 OTE up to £33,500 40 contracted hours per week 5 days from 7 Genuine responsibility and autonomy Clear performance targets and management systems Established salon and client base Support from senior management Opportunity to influence the future direction of the salon Opportunity to develop the team and salon commercially Staff benefits/discounts A business that is investing in its salons, people and systems

WORKING PATTERN

The position is full time and requires flexibility according to the needs of the business.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work:

  • Regular Saturdays Appropriate Sundays/weekends Late shifts where required Peak trading periods

Management presence is particularly important during commercially important periods.

EXPERIENCE

Previous salon management experience is strongly preferred.

We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have experience in:

  • Hairdressing salon management Team leadership Staff performance management Salon KPIs Rotas and labour management Client retention Retail Training and development Commercial growth

Previous salon ownership or substantial senior-management experience would also be welcomed.

WHO THIS ROLE WILL SUIT

This position would suit someone who walks into a salon and naturally notices:

  • The client waiting at reception The empty appointment in tomorrow’s diary The employee sitting idle The workstation that isn’t clean enough The client who hasn’t been offered another appointment The team member who needs support The opportunity to increase revenue The problem that needs solving

—and then actually does something about it.

If you’re the type of manager who takes genuine ownership and enjoys seeing a team and business improve because of your leadership, we’d love to hear from you.

APPLY

Please apply through Indeed with your CV and a short introduction explaining:

  1. Your salon/management experience

  2. The size of team you have previously managed

  3. How you would describe your management style

  4. An example of how you have improved the performance of a team or salon

  5. Why you believe you would be a strong fit for Stewart Kyle & Co Hair & Beauty

We are looking for someone who is ready to hit the ground running, take ownership and lead from the front.
