Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 p.m.–9:00 p.m.
Lunch: 4:00–4:30 p.m.
Employees must remain until all assigned cleaning is completed. Actual departure time may extend beyond 9:00 p.m.

About the Position

Appalachian Producers Cooperative is seeking an experienced, dependable Sanitation Technician for our USDA-inspected meat processing facility.

This is a one-person sanitation position requiring independent work and thorough cleaning. We need someone who works efficiently, manages their time well, and consistently meets our sanitation and food safety standards. Speed matters, but thoroughness and safety cannot be sacrificed to finish sooner.

The technician will work alone under camera surveillance. Pre-operational employees will inspect the completed cleaning the following morning before production begins.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly clean and sanitize the harvest floor, processing room, offal cooler, carcass coolers, and all assigned equipment.
• Remove meat scraps, fat, blood, and other residue from equipment and surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas.
• Disassemble designated equipment according to training and required safety procedures.
• Follow the facility’s Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and cleaning schedules.
• Properly mix and apply cleaning chemicals and sanitizers, following required concentrations, contact times, and safety instructions.
• Inspect your own work and correct missed areas before leaving.
• Complete required sanitation records accurately.
• Report equipment damage, maintenance issues, or conditions that prevent effective cleaning.
• Remove trash and occasionally clean bathrooms as assigned.
• Follow equipment shutdown, lockout/tagout, chemical handling, and personal protective equipment requirements.

Requirements

• Prior sanitation knowledge and experience required. Training will be provided on our facility’s standards, procedures, and equipment.
• Ability to work independently without direct, on-site supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to take responsibility for the quality of your work.
• Ability to work efficiently while completing every required cleaning step.
• Reliable attendance Monday through Friday and availability to stay until cleaning is finished.
• Ability to perform physical work in wet, cold conditions around meat processing residue and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, scrub, push, and pull.
• Ability to safely lift and move items weighing up to 50–75 pounds, using assistance or lifting equipment when needed.
• Ability to understand and follow written sanitation procedures, chemical labels, and safety instructions.

Our Expectations

Successful cleaning means equipment and assigned areas are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and ready for morning pre-operational inspection. This position is a critical part of protecting food safety and keeping production running.

Starting Pay Range & Benefits

• $18 to $20 per hour, dependin on experience
• Health Insurance after 90 days of employment
• Paid Time Off
