Systems Engineer – Satellite Mission Systems

Help shape the systems behind Australia’s access to satellite imagery.

Azooa is preparing a response for a Systems Engineer opportunity supporting the Department of Defence (DoD). You’ll provide technical direction, design governance and integration advice for its Direct Satellite Access (DSA) Mission System.

📍 RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia, with access to work-from-home arrangements. Domestic travel as required.

📅 Indicative term: 10 December 2026 to 9 December 2027, with two possible 12-month extensions at the Commonwealth’s discretion.

🔐 TSPV clearance must be held and maintained.

What you’ll do

• Shape sustainment and configuration management priorities to safeguard critical pathways and improve long-term resilience.
• Guide engineering design choices, system boundaries and patterns supporting future capability.
• Advise on design artefacts and satellite access/tasking integration across antennas, secure environments, data centres and the centralised tasking facility via the WAN.
• Align components from multiple vendors with consistent control layers, separation requirements, policies and standards.
• Improve design patterns, workflows and lifecycle models.
• Lead vendor engagement, resolve integration challenges and contribute engineering advice to commercial discussions.
• Oversee technical risks and design governance, and communicate recommendations to senior leaders and partners.

What you’ll bring

• Proven ICT experience across varied deployment environments and extensive Defence experience.
• Knowledge of applying and integrating Defence Security Principles.
• Practical network architecture knowledge and awareness of geospatial products and end uses.
• Systems Design capability aligned with SFIA DESN Level 5: designing complex systems, assessing design options and risks, reviewing integration and technology choices, balancing functional and non-functional requirements, and contributing to design standards.

Contract details

Time and materials engagement, with planned effort of 230 days / 1,840 hours over the initial term. Reference: RFx31029.
