Saw Cutter

Position Summary

The Saw Cutter I is responsible for performing concrete cutting, core drilling, and related demolition work on commercial construction and demolition projects. This position operates and assists with a variety of concrete-cutting equipment and power tools while following company safety procedures and project requirements. The Saw Cutter is expected to develop proficiency in concrete cutting equipment, jobsite procedures, safety practices, and project requirements. This is a skilled field position with an opportunity to develop additional experience and progress toward a Saw Cutter II role as skills, knowledge, and performance increase.

Essential Responsibilities

Concrete Cutting & Equipment Operation

• • Operate or learn to operate wall saws, core drills, flat saws, hand saws, ring saws, and other concrete-cutting equipment.
  • Operate hydraulic, electrical, gas-powered, and hand-held cutting and drilling equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Perform concrete cutting and core drilling according to project specifications and instructions.
  • Assist with equipment setup, positioning, operation, cleanup, and breakdown.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and appropriately.
  • Maintain awareness of equipment condition and report problems or needed repairs.

Jobsite Operations

• • Follow project instructions, work schedules, and direction from field supervision.
  • Work with Saw Cutter II, foremen, and other field employees to complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain an organized and safe work area.
  • Assist with preparation and cleanup before and after cutting or drilling operations.
  • Adapt to changing project priorities and jobsite conditions.
  • Communicate jobsite concerns, equipment issues, or changes in project conditions to the appropriate supervisor.

Safety & Compliance

• • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Follow applicable OSHA requirements and safe work practices.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report unsafe or damaged equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of employees, equipment, utilities, structures, and other hazards around the work area.
  • Follow project-specific safety requirements and instructions.

Equipment & Tool Care

• • Maintain tools and equipment in a clean, safe, and usable condition.
  • Perform routine care and basic maintenance as directed.
  • Properly transport, store, and secure tools and equipment.
  • Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment promptly.

Documentation & Communication

• • Accurately complete required daily documentation.
  • Use company documentation or field software as required to record work progress, project information, and assigned tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other field personnel.
  • Maintain a professional and positive approach with customers, contractors, and other individuals encountered on the job site.

Career Development: Saw Cutter I is the entry level of MP Contracting's Saw Cutting career path.

Employees who demonstrate consistent performance, safety, equipment proficiency, reliability, and the ability to independently perform more advanced cutting and drilling work may be considered for progression to Saw Cutter II. Progression is based on demonstrated skills, experience, performance, and company needs and is not based solely on length of service.

Physical Requirements: This position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and lifting. The employee must be able to safely assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials and perform other physical duties associated with transportation and construction operations. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Working around dust, noise, vibration, water, concrete debris, equipment, and other construction-site conditions.

Qualifications

• • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR required.
  • Previous construction, demolition, concrete cutting, or related field experience preferred.
  • Approximately 2 years of concrete cutting experience preferred.

  • Wall saws
  • Hand saws
  • Ring saws
  • Flat/slab saws
  • Core drills
  • Hydraulic and electrical equipment
  • Gas and electric demolition saws
  • Chain saws
  • Knowledge of basic concrete cutting and demolition practices preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety rules and jobsite procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with field supervision and other employees.
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently when assigned and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn new equipment, procedures, and techniques.
