Saw Operator - 3rd Shift

Saw Operator Position Overview We are seeking a reliable Saw Operator to accurately and safely cut metal stock to required lengths and specifications. The Saw Operator will primarily operate band saws to support production in a fast-paced metal service center environment, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to safety procedures while meeting daily production targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate and monitor band saws to cut metal stock according to work orders and engineering specifications.
• Measure, mark and verify material dimensions using calipers, micrometers and tape measures; make adjustments to ensure accuracy and tolerance compliance.
• Select, install and tension blades; perform routine blade changes and adjustments to maintain cutting quality.
• Inspect raw material and finished parts for defects, correct dimensions and surface quality; report non-conforming material to supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area; perform daily and preventive maintenance on saws and related equipment.
• Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements to maintain a safe workplace.
• Accurately document production quantities, material usage, scrap and machine maintenance in logs or the production system.
• Coordinate with material handlers, quality inspectors and production supervisors to prioritize jobs and meet delivery schedules.
• Assist with setup and operation of bar saws and other cutting machinery as needed to support workflow continuity.

Qualifications

• 1+yrs of experience as a Saw Operator or similar role, with demonstrated proficiency operating band saws (required).
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, basic blueprints and cutting instructions; strong measuring skills with calipers and micrometers.
• Working knowledge of machine setup, blade selection and preventive maintenance practices.
• Strong attention to detail with commitment to part accuracy, quality control and safety compliance.
• Physical ability to lift and move heavy materials, stand for extended periods and work in a manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical certificate in machine operation is a plus.
• Nice to have: experience operating bar saws, familiarity with industrial machinery and prior experience in a metal service center.
• Preferred certifications: OSHA 10/30, lockout/tagout or equivalent safety training.
