Role Summary:

The Saw Operator is responsible for preparing structural steel through the set and operation of the Bandsaw machines in the welding shop.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sets up and operates power saws to cut, slot, groove, miter, and trim workpieces according to specifications
• Select and installs blade on machine, using handtools.
• Sets controls to adjust speed, feed rate, and blade tensions.
• Positions guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct workpiece, using handtools and measuring devices.
• Scribes reference lines on material as guide for sawing operations, according to specifications.
• Mounts workpiece in holding device, manually or using hoist.
• Operates saw to cut along scribed lines.
• Verifies dimensions of finished workpiece, using measuring devices.
• Ensure housekeeping is completed on a daily basis in assigned area.
• Comply with standards and procedures of the PTW health and safety manual and Occupational Health

and Safety regulations.

• Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor or shop foreman.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Understanding of production procedures
• Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
• Teamwork and communication skills
