What they need

About the Role

We’re hiring a skilled Sawmill Operator to help run our small sawmill and process timbers for custom timber frame projects. This isn’t a high-speed production mill — it’s precision, quality-focused work where accuracy and judgment matter.

You’ll be cutting and preparing structural timbers to spec, working closely with our project management and shop teams to make sure materials are ready, accurate, and on schedule.

If you know wood, understand grain and defects, and take pride in clean, precise cuts, you’ll fit right in.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate and maintain a small sawmill to cut timbers and beams to specification
  • Read cut lists, plans, and project requirements
  • Select, position, and mill logs and stock efficiently and safely
  • Inspect wood for defects, grain direction, and structural integrity
  • Maintain consistent dimensional accuracy and quality
  • Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on mill equipment
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
  • Communicate clearly with project managers and shop teams about priorities and timelines
  • Follow directions and adapt to changing project needs

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience operating a sawmill (portable or small-scale mill experience welcome)
  • Strong understanding of timber, lumber grading, and wood behavior
  • Attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
  • Ability to read drawings, measurements, and cut lists accurately
  • Good communication skills and team mindset
  • Dependable, organized, and safety-conscious
  • Physically capable of working outdoors and handling heavy materials

Assets (but not required)

  • Timber framing or woodworking experience
  • Equipment maintenance skills
  • Forklift or material handling experience

Why Join Us

  • Work on unique, high-quality timber frame projects
  • Small team, hands-on environment
  • Competitive pay based on skill and experience
  • Benefits package available after three months.
